I would think they would have generator back-up especially since it happened before.

Wow. I guess they've never even heard the phrase "diesel electric generator set."

Could be a real opportunity for someone from Onan or Caterpillar. Maybe give them a power-point or something.

New York too, affecting air travel to DC and Boston - security screening affected... subways on the blink

Power outages interrupt train, air service in New York

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Scattered power outages in New York inconvenienced tens of thousands of travelers Tuesday as Con Edison struggled to meet high demand for power in the face of sweltering temperatures.

At LaGuardia Airport in Queens, hundreds of passengers became stranded at 8 a.m. Tuesday, when power outages interrupted security screening at the Marine Terminal and darkened part of the main terminal.

Delta Air Lines canceled flights in its shuttle operation to Washington and Boston, Massachusetts, which is run out of the Marine Terminal on the airport's west side, said spokesman Anthony Black.

Outbound passengers could not be screened.

pathetic. I bet they've spent 10s of millions of dollars for diversity training for airport employees, yet couldn't spend a million for redundant back up generators.

A power outage at the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center Tuesday cut communications and brought incoming and outgoing flights in Southern California to a standstill, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.

"We lost everything, we lost all power to phone lines, computers, everything," said Allen Kenitzer, a regional spokesman for the FAA.

The outage was reported around 6 p.m., Kenitzer said, and the cause was not known.

The center is located in the high desert near Palmdale.

The other TV stations have the same info:

Flights in and out of LAX, Bob Hope and Ontario International airports have ground to a halt because of a power failure affecting radar and the Southern California air traffic system."
