WRKO suspended talk-show host John DePetro yesterday for using a slur for "homosexual" in reference to Turnpike Authority chairman Matthew J. Amorello.
The morning host, who calls himself "The Independent Man," was suspended for two days after using the epithet on the air during a discussion of Amorello's conduct following the ceiling collapse of the I-90 connector. DePetro called Amorello "[expletive] Matt," adding, "I don't mean gay [expletive]. I mean like he's a sissy boy. He's a little sissy boy."
Neither DePetro nor Amorello returned calls late yesterday, but WRKO program director Jason Wolfe said the station has "zero tolerance for racial intolerance... Mr. DePetro has 72 hours to think about this." Wolfe said he purposely chose the word "racial" because "people will lump everything in together."

Aren't gays a race unto themselves up there in MA?
Yes but not the human one.

If it's true, where's the problem? Most Massachusetts homosexuals,IMO,would be thrilled to be described that way.
I've read about Matthew Amorello. He was a GOP state Senator who ran for Congress in 1998.

"okay, I am a little slow, or maybe a little too old, what was the slur?"
Thanks for asking - I didn't want to be the first...
I assume "fag" or "faggot."
I think it was the word "boy".
I love DePetro---listen every day.
From radio chatter: Amorello has come under ridicule for saying he won't resign because of a conversation with his wife. Something along that line.
Come over here and sit by me, and we'll both wait for the answer. If the guy is queer, how is it a slur? If the guy isn't, is it a slur to call someone a queer -- esp. in Mass.?
Every talk show I know of has a seven second delay button used to delete objectionable language (and other stuff) from callers *and* hosts. The person who controls the button works for the station, not the host.
Why wasn't that buttoned used if it's so objectionable?
If it means gettin special "victim" status, it works.
I'd like to start a new minority called "fishermen" and start making demands on the enviro-whackos.
From what I've seen, they call each other a lot of names a lot worse then anything I could ever have thought of and they think it's "cute".
Right. He's crooked as eighty miles of Boston detours, but I don't know anybody who thinks he's gay. What set DePetro off was Amorello showing up at the funeral of the woman killed by his cupidity and incompetence, dragging his wife -- and, what Matt doesn't leave home without these days, a PR flack.
It was a colossal display of Absence of Class, which will shock no one who knows Amorello. But DePetro's remark wasn't called for either, although the station's reaction is over the top.
Why did the station overreact? Maybe the station manager's queer himself, but I think WRKO is looking for an excuse to can DePetro and bring in someone else, probably Brian Maloney. I bet Maloney is filling in for him... none of the other RKO hosts can match Howie Carr for numbers, and they'd really like to have people listen to RKO in the morning, rather than turn it on when Howie's show kicks off, or for Rush Limbaugh (who leads in to Howie).

The wretches at the Globe will use every name in the book to villify President Bush and his administration. But they can't bring themselves to publish the foolish Muhammad cartoons nor, here, write in more than the word 'expletive.'
I for one would like to know what John said.
Was is fag Matt?
He has a wife, named Charlotte, from what I heard on Howie Carr.
