Headline from MSNBC Also: CNN just reported that fair grounds in Cyprus have been secured to house 500 beds and another 250 hotel rooms are secured for evacuees
Alright, NOW we're talking! Hang in there, buddy... Help's on the way!
good news
I know it must seem like an eternity to those on the ground, but actually 5-6 days doesn't seem to be an extraordinarily lengthy time to pull together evacuation plans on this scale and in these circumstances.
Didn't the State Department tell people not to go to Lebanon? Why are all these people there? Just curious.
Some live there. Some were vacationing or visiting family
This is BS that these people have to pay money to get out of there. I don't care what the law says. The United States pays out their butt to all these countries for everything under the sun. You would think that WE could pay for our people to get out of somewhere.
The BILLIONS that are sent to Africa and other nations...with nothing in return. A few thousand dollars to remove some people from Lebanon? What a joke.
Of the 25,000 Americans there, 20,000 are estimated to have dual citizenship.
a few thousand? ha.
I can understand the ones that LIVE there. Vacation though? heh I don't think so. Not now at least. I would LOVE to go to Beirut but the last time I was in the Middle East I made the decision that it just wasn't safe. I did end up in the West Bank though - Remallah and so on. Guess there is not much difference.
. . . and some were working there on important business, like rebel_yell2.
Every night we welcome in 6,000 education + english-hating child-molesting foreigners, but when our own CITIZENS require evaculation, WE CHARGE THEM ship fare.
I missed where they are being charged for the evacuation.
Where is that info?
I take it back! Thanks for the link. I love that author!
"This is BS that these people have to pay money to get out of there. . ."
So tell your Congresspeople what you think. They're the ones that passed the law. You sound riled enough to make the proper noise.
$163 that will break the bank for these tourists.
6 Brittish are in the region to assist with evacuations - per FOX TV
Tony Snow explained at the press briefing this morning that congress had passed a law (against State Dept. request) that required evacuees to pay their own way. Sounds to me like a law needs to be changed. If you think so, let the lawmakers know.
Some people are employed there. It's the selection of Lebanon (with warnings attached) as a vacation spot that I don't get.
Who cares WHAT the dollar amount is. The fact that they have to pay is SICKENING
