BEIRUT — Thousands of Americans whose vacations and business trips to Lebanon have degenerated with sickening speed into stints in a battle zone remained stranded here under Israeli bombardment Monday, their frustration and anger mounting because the U.S. government hasn't gotten them out faster.
Waiting around Beirut with bags packed and fingers crossed, U.S. citizens derided the embassy for busy phone lines, a lack of information and gnawing uncertainty over when and whether they will get out. Hundreds were expected to be shipped to Cyprus today, but how long the full evacuation will take remains uncertain.

I lived in Singapore for 4 years, 1994-1998 and in Hong Kong from 1998-1999. We loved Singapore. I still have a few friends that live there. How long have you been there?

But I find it inexcusable that the State Department was unprepared for the call volume an incident like this would generate.
I can't imagine the size of the government if we had to have a staff at the State Department for dealing with a majority of Ameicans overseas that might need eveacuation. That would of course include everywhere in the middle east, much of Africa, several areas in South America....
And with the same thoughts we need Federal support to evacate cities like New Orleans because the local government can't, we need......
You can't use high value military ships for an evacuation, we can't afford to place those assets in jeopardy because Americans choose to go to DANGEROUS places.
We don't have and don't want a government that big, nor can we afford one.

Hong Kong is a difficult place to communicate sometimes(particularly with the tradesmen) because of all the mainland Chinese that have migrated to Hong Kong after the handover. Of course, we moved to RedHill...lots of building defects there which required a lot of tradesmen work.

You and Peach blasted freepers that posted about the original article. I know this was a confusing thread because it was posted by rebel_yell2 who said he was in Lebanon- many posters posted things to him replying TO THE ARTICLE, since he posted the article as per SOP on other threads. Not every post to rebel_yell2 on this thread was PERSONALLY directed to rebel and his situation, many referenced things IN THE ARTICLE posted by rebel. You and Peach made fools of yourselves over the vacation issue and again over whether or not anyone on the thread had children in the military that were on there way to rescue US citizens. You need to go back and read early in the thread where a poster said to rebel ***we are sending our sons and daughters to rescue you** or words to that effect- I took it that she meant WE as in the United States...are sending our sons and daughters as in the military are the sons and daughters of all US citizens and not personally our children- but I think the banned poster thought they meant literally she and others on the thread had children on the way in the military. It was an easy mistake- for which she was called a damn liar and then repeatedly called a liar by you and Peach. You both lumped other posters in and threw crap out that was not so- called many freepers liars over and over when neither one of you ever posted proof that ANYONE lied on this thread!!!! Some were confused and mistaken about some of the facts AS WERE YOU AND PEACH. So *IF* those freepers are liars THEN SO ARE YOU AND PEACH- BIG TIME!!

That banned freeper lied and said that I damned someone to hell at which point I called her a liar because I most certainly did not do that and she couldn't point to where I did that.
She was not called a liar by anyone because she indicated some freepers were sending their loved ones to help with the extraction. She was asked, by me, which freepers had family members involved in the extraction. She never answered and it never came back up.
And now, since you don't have a passing acquaintance with the facts, you are back on ignore.
I had meant to ask you to tell us more about that situation; it sounded horrible. Not sure I could have physically withstood 34 days on a donkey.
Regardless, I should have said that not many of us have ever been in that situation. Thankfully.
