JERUSALEM - An Israeli airstrike in Lebanon on Monday destroyed at least one long-range Iranian missile capable of hitting Tel Aviv, military officials said.
Israeli aircraft targeted a truck carrying the weapons before they could be launched, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of military regulations. The force of the blast sent at least one missile flying into the air, but it fell nearby.
During nearly a week of fighting, Hezbollah militants have fired missiles up to 25 miles into Israel. But officials have raised concerns the guerrilla group could strike Tel Aviv, about 80 miles south of the border with Lebanon.
There is little or no interest in the same when a terrorist blows up a public market.
IDF is preparing the battle field. Wouldn't want Hizzbholla to be able to move the missiles/rockets as the Israeli ground troops advance.
Nope...it was a LEAFLET CONTAINER that landed on a truck that hezbullah was using to launch rockets. ROFL!

Yes!!
That's true, but I think speculation of a huge operation into Lebanon is probably wrong. The Israelis are denying it, which means little at this point, but I'm not sure it makes sense.
What they need to do at the very least is isolate Southern Lebanon and do the house-to-house, cave-to-cave thing there very discretely with small units, almost commandos. With enough backup to take out any real resistance, but without the hundreds of tanks on the ground. Just quietly go in every night and check out a village. Kill the rockets, kill any Hezzies they find, and slip away. Repeat regularly until the Hezzies are so jumpy they've had enough or are al dead or disarmed. Surveillance of the Bekka and Syria to prevent resupply, with massive air interdiction of any resupply. Possibly commandos or airborne units into Bekka to check things out and do some blowing up.
this may be that Fadjr 3 (sic)
I love news like this. It's time to let good fight, not have diplomatic "conversations".
Good News!
Israel's partnership with the U.S. resulted in, among other things, the Arrow-2 missile system. Even faster than the Patriot, IIRC. Not yet combat-tested (but real soon, I'd wager).
It's shortcoming is the small number of launch installations (well, that Israel has disclosed...)
Well, a missile is anything propelled toward a target, and even David's slingshot stone was a missile. But, returning to your point, not all missiles have guidance, although all long-range or sophisticated ones do.
Yes they do....the United States...
"On 13 October 1973, Pilot Jim Shelton and RSO Gary Coleman in #979, departed Griffiss AFB on the first of a series of flights to the Middle East. After 11.13 hours of flight time involving 6 refuelings and more than five hours of flight above Mach 3.0, Jim Shelton landed SR #979 back at Griffiss AFB, NY. The "Photo Take" was highly successful and provided Defense Analysts and the President of the United States with information about the actual Syrian military situation. On 25 October 1973, Pilot Al Joersz and RSO John Fuller flew SR #979 on another 11.13 hour non-stop round robin sortie to assess the ground situation around the Sinai and Galilee. On 02 November 1973, Pilot Bob Helt and RSO Larry Elliott in SR #979,flew a similar Trans-Atlantic sortie to the Yom Kippur War zone in 11.22 hours of flight. The last flight from Griffiss AFB was 11 November 1973. Blackbird #964 was flown by Pilot Jim Wilson and RSO Bruce Douglass and landed at Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina. This sortie lasted 10.49 hours. As snow fell in Rome New York, Colonel Pat Halloran opted for a warmer climate and moved operations to Seymour Johnson AFB, NC. These SR-71 Reconnaissance flights were instrumental in defusing the war and provided positive intelligence photos to the deeply distrusting Israelis and Arabs."
"Though the Americans provided the Israeli military with weaponry, they also provided Israel with something far more important intelligence. Documents relating to the American spy-plane, the SR-71 Blackbird, show that the Israelis knew where major concentrations of Arab forces were as they were supplied with this information as a result of a SR-71 flying over the war zone. With such knowledge, the Israelis knew where to deploy their forces for maximum effect. What appeared to be intuitive devastating counter-attacks by the Israelis, were based on very detailed information gained from American intelligence. Basically, the Israelis knew where their enemy was and could co-ordinate an attack accordingly."
Yes, but rest assured the U.S. is supplying valuable intel from above. Either way, I like it.
Good intel...that goes without saying, right?
Israeli and American aircraft break ground and fly into the wind!

LOLOLOL! What a perfect, pithy statement: succinct, to the point and so darn right.
TY.
Big sky, little bullet.
Rockets and missiles are different animals.
Typically rockets are unguided following a ballistic trajectory. Missiles have some type of post launch guidance.
Yeah, my understanding was that the Patriot was a SAM, actually I guess they all are, but one to take out aircraft, that turned out to be so good it could knock down a few missles, or at least SCUDs which weren't state-of-the-art even back then. So it was more of a jumping off point into the modern "anti-missile missle" than anything else.
