For overall Russian strategy re: Middle East/Israel and some background on their current Minister of Foreign Affairs, "The Shadow Behind the Middle East Peace Conference" is also a good read:

As I recall, back in 1956 Fatah was sending fedayeen across the border to Israel to attack schools, and homes.

That was a bit before Afghanistan.

The term Assassin refers to Muslim terrorists doped up with Hashish, and used to attack less violent Muslims to coerce recruitment for campaigns against the Roman empire based on Constantinopolos. 9th, 10th, and 11th century stuff.

Sorry, but Islamic terrorism started long before Soviet Russia was even a gleam in Lenin's eye.

Different western powers have tried to use Islamic viciousness, but it has always come back to bite them.

Yep, and the Russian Communists (including Putin et al) have been using it from at least 1916 until the present day. They need to be called to account for this.

Well, in all fairness, we tried to use them, too. Of course, so did the Spanish kings 1300 years ago (when they called on the notoriously vicious Muslims in a regional war) and all they got for their money was having their kingdoms taken over and then being killed. I think Russia is experiencing the same thing right now.

The lesson is that there are some critters so vicious the only thing you can do with them is put them down. You sure can't make alliances with them.

This in-depth, well researched overview is a must read, keeping in mind which nation is arming Syria, Iran and other anti-Western enemies.

True, but the point here is that the Russians are currently making common cause with the Terror Network against the US and its allies. They need to be called to account for this.

And it will again.
Different Western powers - would you enlarge on that a bit, other than Germany, Ital and Spain that is. Thanks.

Talk about loud body language! From my point of view, Putin's greeting to our president was definitely frosty to say the least!

Here's some background information from PalestineFacts.org

What led to the Six Day War in 1967?

Military Provocation By Arab Countries and Soviet Disinformation [subheading down the page]

Excerpt:
At the same time, and unknown to the Israelis, the Soviet Union mounted a disinformation campaign pushing Egypt to join Syria against Israel. At that time, the Soviets were providing military and economic aid to both Syria and Egypt. On May 13, 1967 a Soviet parliamentary delegation visited Cairo and informed the Egyptian leaders that Israel had concentrated eleven to thirteen brigades along the Syrian border in preparation for an assault within a few days, with the intention of overthrowing the revolutionary Syrian Government. This was a complete fabrication designed by the Soviets to destabilize the Middle East. Similar false information may have been given to Egypt by the Soviets as early as May 2.

IMO, we should put ourselves in the shoes of various Russian leadership factions and look for likely motives. I recently saw something about Russia making a deal with Lebanon or Syria for a sea port, but I didn't keep the link.
