Little Green Footballs notes one of the New York Times' "memorable photographs," which was taken by Times photographer Joao Silva. Silva was in the room with a Mahdi Army sniper who was trying to kill American soldiers:
The Times' commentary on the photo, by Assistant Managing Editor for Photography Michele McNally:
"Right there with the Mahdi army. Incredible courage."
We have written before about the wire services' use of Iraqi stringers who appear to be members of, or at the least friendly with, terrorist groups. This is a step beyond that, as Silva isn't just an anonymous stringer, but is a famous photographer under contract to the Times. And, as far as I can see from his web site, Silva's entire book, In the Company of God, is shot from the perspective of the insurgents. So he must have been quite comfortable in their company. Jeff Goldstein says:
Incredible courage? Well, far be it for me to question such self-congratulatory enthusiasm, but it seems to me that actual incredible courage would have entailed, say, Joao Silva getting word to US troops, or his bumrushing the sniper and beating him unconscious with a heavy telephoto lens.
Whereas what weve witnessed here is the product of dangerous opportunism in the service of plaudits and cocktail party invites.
It would have required courage to hang out with the Mahdi Army, if there were any likelihood that a member of the Iraqi "insurgency" would regard a representative of the New York Times as an enemy.
Add another one to a long list of "American" traitors who need to be dealt with.
The picture tells the story, as Ann Coulter would remind us. In times of war, the liberals side with the enemy.
The Times is garbage. Sulzberger is an idiot.
Imagine how the public would have reacted to a similar picture by a US journalist of a Nazi or Japanese sniper about to shoot US troops. Even in Viet Nam, Jane Fonda was just sitting on the anti-aircraft gun and wasn't actuallly shooting at US planes and the photo was taken by the North Vietnamese. The journalist should be held for war crimes.
It's no coincidence that I chose Times Square as the location for the following montage picture.
Another anti-American SOB who needs to be in jail. If he is in a combat zone he should be considered an enemy.
Do you keep adding to that montage or am I just not seeing everything? I swear I notice something new each time I see it, like the 'Surrender Bonds' (LOL!) at the bottom right. Is that new?
When I get a chance, I think I need to find a window for Pinch Sulzberger or Maureen Dowd to be cheering from.
Too bad he didnt get the "after" photo too, an American with his head blown off laying dead in the street. The masshysteria media would have really loved that and crowed about "courage."
How did this photographer miss the butchering of the two American POWs?
The editors and publishers of the Times have lost their collective minds. I believe Sulzberger really thinks, in the recesses of his mind, that these "insurgents" are the heroes. And of course, the U.S. servicemen and women are the enemy.
There's no reason for anyone to purchase anything from the New York Times.
If that photographer had any drop of patriotism in him he would go do this, then once he was in the room with the guy, he kill him.
Of course, if the troops had sent an HE round into that room and killed the sniper and the schmuck photographer, the NYT would be back to shrieking that the army was targeting journalists and lionizing the heroism of the leftist swine that call their muckraking journalism.
Can't wait to see their coverage of the Hezbollah/Iran rocket batteries.
I think you have your answer.
Unless, of course, the more likely scenario is true, that the pics were staged as photo ops. Clearly the NYT has been campaigning as a combatant against US forces.
Treason is really in style, isn't it?
When was this published?
The NEW YORK SLIMES got there first.

New York Times once again gives aid and comfort to the enemy in Iraq.
