Jewish religious law determines one's Jewishness by maternal lineage. A person with a Jewish father and a non-Jewish mother would have to undergo a formal conversion ritual (including religious education) in order to be considered Jewish.
Why do you say that your grandchildren deserve to live when generations before them have died? The Lord will come and nothing will change His plan. I have grandchildren too and I would like to see them grow and prosper, but I don't think they deserve it just because I want it.
