Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says America is in World War III and President Bush should say so. In an interview in Bellevue this morning Gingrich said Bush should call a joint session of Congress the first week of September and talk about global military conflicts in much starker terms than have been heard from the president.
"We need to have the militancy that says 'We're not going to lose a city,' " Gingrich said. He talks about the need to recognize World War III as important for military strategy and political strategy.
Gingrich said he is "very worried" about Republican's facing fall elections and says the party must have the "nerve" to nationalize the elections and make the 2006 campaigns about a liberal Democratic agenda rather than about President Bush's record.
Gingrich says that as of now Republicans "are sailing into the wind" in congressional campaigns. He said that's in part because of the Iraq war, adding, "Iraq is hard and painful and we do not explain it very well."
But some of it is due to Republicans' congressional agenda. He said House and Senate Republicans "forgot the core principle" of the party and embraced Congressional pork. "Some of the guys," he said, have come down with a case of "incumbentitis."
Gingrich said in the coming days he plans to speak out publicly, and to the Administration, about the need to recognize that America is in World War III.
He lists wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, this week's bomb attacks in India, North Korean nuclear threats, terrorist arrests and investigations in Florida, Canada and Britain, and violence in Israel and Lebanon as evidence of World War III. He said Bush needs to deliver a speech to Congress and "connect all the dots" for Americans.

Wonder if he bounced as many women as he did checks at the House Bank?
For starters, we should be killing more terrorists, faster, regardless of where they live. Israel is on the right track. We should kill Kim and pound Iran's nuclear sites into oblivion, now. And double the number of troops in Iraq.
That's where I'm at too. I think Newt is a very intelligent person who has a very good understanding of things. I just don't like him on a personal level. If given the choice between him and a Democrat, I'd vote for him. But I don't want to see him as THE REPUBLICAN candidate. Maybe he could be placed in a cabinet position for another Republican.
If it's between Newt and McCain, I'd take Newt.
Sorry, it is WWIII. WWI was really WWIa and WWII was WWIb. The Cold War was WWII.
While I largely AGREE with Mr.Newt,he's wrong on this one! The"Cold War"was WWIII,and we won!!This war on TERRORISM is WWIIII!!!
As an aside, what do you call a tennis match between Ray Charles and Little Stevie Wonder?ENDLESS LUV!!
When WW III starts there won't be any doubt.
Is that the City or the Institution? ;-)
The libs fear Newt above most others. Remember how they blamed everything on him when he was still in? I believe that they fear him because he would be effective.
I'd love to see a George Allen and Newt Gingrich ticket
Nope. We could have a hundred million man army, but if we don't have the will to utterly destroy the enemy, we will not win. We are a society that has grown soft. We want to reform criminals; we want to disarm our enemies, as if the guns were shooting themselves without a madman's trigger finger doing the work. Until the American public believes it is at war and supports a leader with the will to annihilate the enemy, the Islamofascists will continue to thrive. We won't destroy them until they almost succeed in destroying us.
The Cold War was not WWIII, it was "the Cold War." (Duh!) This is WWIII, just as Gingrich (belatedly) says.
I'll believe that when the President starts up the draft again.
Until the well-to-do in this country send their kids into the battle along with the economic draftees already there, its all a 'UN police action'.
You don't want your population any more fearful than necessary. The fact that Pres. Bush has been able to prosecute this war AWAY from our shores and keep the economy strong tells me he's doing things just right.
Throwing terms around comparing this to WWII where we lost 500,000 would inject a spirit which cause Americans to pull back from working and living boldly. This would deflate the economy which would, in turn, be disastrous for military funding.
"War on Terror" is just fine in my book. And Pres. Bush is a great CIC.
Don't scare people like that. He is running third behind Tancredo and Allen. I think McStain was in 12th place behind "sit-it-out".
Sorry Newt it's been W.W. III since 9/11, where have you been????????????????????????????/
