Israel: Iran Aided Hezbollah Ship Attack
Associated Press ^ | Jul 15, 2006 | MATT MOORE

A missile fired by Hezbollah, not an unmanned drone laden with explosives, damaged an Israeli warship off Lebanon, the army said Saturday.

Elite Iranian troops helped fire the missile...

One sailor was killed and three were missing.

The intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the information, said about 100 Iranian soldiers are in Lebanon and helped fire the Iranian-made, radar-guided C-102 at the ship late Friday.

The official added that the troops involved in firing the missile are from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, an elite corps of more than 200,000 fighters that is independent of the regular armed forces and controlled directly by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Initial information indicated the guerrillas had used a drone for the first time to attack Israeli forces.

But the army's investigation showed that Hezbollah had fired an Iranian-made missile at the vessel from the shores of Lebanon, said Brig. Gen. Ido Nehushtan.

"We can confirm that it was hit by an Iranian-made missile launched by Hezbollah. We see this as very profound fingerprint of Iranian involvement in Hezbollah,"...

all the 'infrastructure' a c-802 takes is the proper vehicle; no ground "site" to launch from.
The katyushas that hezbollah is firing aren't palestinian style homemade rockets, they're 132 mm soviet artillery rockets and are, like a c-802, also vehicle launched, and they don't seem to have problems with that 'infrastructure'...
Hezbollah is not just another Hamas; it is a well funded, decently trained and surprisingly well equipped militia, all complements of our dear friends over in Iran. If it can flown in from Iran, (i.e. anything lighter than a tank), than odds are Hezbollah has a handful of 'em.

"Iowa class were very vulnerable to breaking the keel type detonations and deck strikes."

An Iowa class battleship deck has three layers of armor more than 8 inches thick> I doubt the type of missile used against the Israeli ship would have very much effect on a battleship. The sides and turrets had even more armor than the deck.

A while ago a retired Navy Captain was asked what would happen if an Exocet struck a Battleship. The Captain said he would have to immediately send two crews to the impact site. One to sweep the debris and one to repaint the deck. :)

I think the message is clear: If Iran has the Bomb, then Hizbollah has the Bomb.

More than Hizbollah would have the bomb. Iran has infiltrated Sudan, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates; through Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iraq and Kurdistan, Jordan and Palestine; and through the Islamic Jihad in Egypt, Turkey, Chechnya and in Caucasia.

Click here on globalsecurity.org for a quick read on how iran has deployed it's Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps throughout the middle east and africa.

Nasty people at least as bad as the nazis.

Are you still seeing Israeli Saar missile ships cruising within a couple of miles of the coast of Lebanon ?

Second, is their any reasonable explanation why this is still happening after Israel almost lost one Saar 5-class missile ship ?

They didn't "loose" a ship - that means untie one - nor lose a ship. It was hit and damaged by saved, and will be repaired.

Haifa-hit rockets were Syrian made

Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz said on Sunday afternoon that the more advanced Fajar missiles that were fired with a barrage of other rockets at Haifa on Sunday morning, killing eight people, were made in Syria.

Just two hours after the fatal attack, a second barrage of rockets landed in Haifa's port area and Nahariya.

A third barrage of rockets hit the Haifa area on Sunday afternoon...

Because you don't think the other guy even has any missiles, and believe the only fixed wing aircraft in the area will all be friendly. So to reduce any chance of a friendly fire incident... You know the rest.

This was interesting, IMHO.

The Sa'ar 5-class missile ship returned to the Ashdod port and was said to have sustained damage to its rear hull near the helicopter pad...

The C-802 missiles, a senior Military Intelligence officer said Saturday, were made in China but upgraded by Iran, which had made improvements to the radar-guided system and delivered it to Hizbullah.

Senior naval officers admitted Saturday night that they were taken completely by surprise by the missile attack, claiming that they did not know that Hizbullah possessed such advanced capabilities. The missile has a 100-kilometer range.

Officials confirmed that the anti-missile detection systems were not operating at the time of the attack since the navy was apparently unaware that Hizbullah had such capabilities...

How would like to be on one of those evacuee ships???

Would love to hear the warnings Iran is receiving via the diplomatic grapevine.

I heard that China sold these "Silkworms" to Iran in the 1990s. Wonder how many Iran has in its stocks?

Thanks for the ping. I found this to be very interesting.

Thanks.

I hope that you are well.

Apparently, the missle design is based upon the French Exocet, then China, then Iran, now here.

The "Elite" Iranian Guards fired two missiles, both with a hit probibility of 98% and missed with one. Well sort of missed, they sank a civilian ship...

If that is elite, I would hate to see what is regular troops.
