I thought this could be a new thread for today. BurbankKarl's thread did well yesterday.
...shaping the battlespace...
They keep talking about (they in general, and this piece does as well) evacs from Beirut to Cyprus or from the airport to Cyprus, etc.
I'm curious why nothing has mentioned what they're going to do/offer/suggest for those Americans stuck in the south. Even if there's a temporary cease fire to let expats leave safely, no one still in the south can get through with nearly every road having been struck. Supposedly there may be one route, but it is long, and not a very good road under 'normal' circumstances, and the way things change, that road may have also since been hit. Folks in Tyre, Saida, etc. are essentially forced to just shelter in place otherwise I wonder if they're going to try to get a ceasefire to be long enough to allow for travel time (assuming that one road is passable) or what?
14 July 2006: As the war in the Middle East is on track to exceed anything we have seen in our generation, the findings of current surveillance operations of suspected Islamic terror operatives inside the United States show concurrent significant changes, according to one well-placed federal intelligence source. It is no secret that physical and electronic surveillance has been in place on those individuals and groups inside of the U.S. since we were attacked. A report from our source states that there have been numerous reports from field operatives of significant behavioral and pattern changes by those who have suspected ties to Middle East terror groups. Electronic intercepts of communications of interest submitted for priority processing have also significantly increased, although our source declined to provide any specific details of these intercepts.
The latest results of physical surveillance operations have also shown disturbing behavioral and pattern changes of the surveillance subjects, according to our source. There seems to be a definite connection between the events taking place in the Middle East with the level of activity of suspected terrorist operatives inside the U.S. Although not totally unexpected, extra vigilance is definitely required by us in the U.S. as well as our assets abroad.

Israel Won't Confirm Report, Which Comes One Day After Major Pullback
We'll keep praying for you rebel! Crash the wedding!
Keep your head down...and your spirits up, okay??
We keep hearing that the State Dept. or the Defense Dept. is working to get you all out.
In the meantime...we would love to have you hangout with us, here on FR.
We're thinking alike. He's stiring the citizens in Sadr City and a few other areas, our troops really need to take him out to have any hopes of a democracy succeeding in Iraq. To leave him there is to create another breeding Hamas, Hezbollah situation for the future. If we dont' want armogeddon then we need to support Israel and finish this war once and for all (now it's started).
23:51 Palestinians: IDF tanks enter northern Gaza Strip (AP)
Earlier today I saw a clip on FOX showing a young Palestinian woman being carried on a stretcher. Someone one was holding a bloodied cloth on her head...he moved it for a moment and there was no wound or blood matted hair...she immediately put her hand on her head and the the bloodied cloth was put back on.
I've been watching for the clip to replay, but I haven't seen it again.
they are denying that they are there-

Bolton is doing a great job but he's a voice in a small minority. I sure don't envy his job because he knows how the battles are going to end before they ever start there.
Yes!!! and she said a week or so later in an interview that the lady made her so angry she couldn't help herself.
I'm unable to find these locations on any map so far. Wondering if they are in the Haifa - Tiberias latitude...?
Israel has rejected Lebanon's appeal for a ceasefire. They say they'll only stop if Hezbollah disarms and the kidnapped soldiers are returned.
The US State Department said it was working with the Defence Department on a plan to transport Americans to Cyprus, from where it recommended they return to the United States by commercial airlines.
The State Department estimates that about 25,000 US citizens, including people with dual citizenship, live in Lebanon, although summer visits could expand that community.
"There are quite a number of Americans in Lebanon because, as you know, we have quite a big American-Lebanese community and many are there for the summer," US Assistant Secretary of State David Welch told CNN from Tripoli, Libya.
I watched the Beltway Boys while making my sammich...and I just cringed when Mort said "Israel and Palestine"...

And, the way they are going, there never will be...

I saw the video. Banderas gave satisfaction to 99% of the American people. It truly was a beautiful thing.
OH, great map! Thank you, I now see where Carmiel and Kiryat Shemona are.
Apparently the American University students were to be evacuated, but it was canceled when Syrian official wouldnt allow them over the border.
CNN said Swiss and Saudi Arabia evacuated using busses already.
