Decision Time: Will this war go nuclear?
www.frontpagemag.com ^ | 7/14/2006 | David Horowitz

Posted on 07/14/2006 3:23:40 PM PDT by elizabethr

Here is the situation: World leaders are lining up, either on the side of the Islamic terrorists (Chirac and Putin) or the side of their victims (the United States and -- somewhat -- Great Britain). The Vatican, which has an unsavory record in regard to the periodic slaughters of the Jews has thrown its moral weight (such as it is these days) onto the scales against the Jews. As the Hizbollah terrorists fire hundreds of rockets into Israeli cities from Lebanon and the Pope condemns Israel's attempts to destroy the rockets aimed at its citizens, Israel's chief of staff is forced to concede that those rockets can reach farther than previously thought, putting more Israelis in danger. Meanwhile, the Syrian terrorist state tells Time magazine that it could destroy Israel's nuclear sites. Hizbollah, Hamas, Iran and Syria occupy areas that are one hundred times the size of Israel and the populations they control are ten times the size of Israel's. Hizbollah and Hamas, and their patron Iran, have sworn to remove Israel from the face of the earth -- in those very words. Iran has defied the world community in asserting its determination to complete its nuclear program. Syria supports Iran, hosts Hamas and is a party to this malignant Islamic crusade. Behind them stand Russia and China and North Korea, and also apparently the international left which is lining up squarely behind the jihadists -- and has been doing so throughout the open preparation of this second holocaust. The left's favorite apostle Noam Chomsky only months ago was embracing Hizbollah's Hitler, Hassan Nasrallah, and his genocidal agendas.

So here is the issue: If you were Israel's prime minister, could you afford to wait until Iran attains nuclear warheads for Hizbollah's missiles? Or can you be sure it hasn't already been supplied such warheads by Russia or China through Iran? Could you afford to wait to see if Syria will supply the chemical and biological weapons it has cached for Saddam Hussein to Hizbollah and Hamas? Or would you proceed to plan B and obliterate them now?

While the Israeli prime minister ponders this question, leftists who are encouraging the forces of genocide -- Hizbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran -- might want to think how all the present bloodshed and the next terrible decisions that Israel must take to defend itself -- and their consequences -- will lie on their heads.

Is there a better description for Hizbollah, Hamas, and all of fundamental Islam than "purely evil"?

I think the Pope sees that too, but there are many Christians and non fundamental muslims in Lebanon.

I am actually all for this war. I would rather the pot be brought to a full boil than lull the west to sleep (and kill it) with a slow simmer.

Well, that's all the rub, in't it? With an unpredictable muslim crazy man leading a proto-nuclear power in the ME, can Israel affor NOT to take -- perhaps very drastic -- proactive measures?

Who can read the mind of that self-important crow, Imasmellycod?

It's a dicey situation from any angle.

I hope not. I am pro Bush but I have to say he did not expect the current events when he liberated Iraq. Bush said the world will be a safer place with Saddam removed from power. Well he was wrong. May God help everyone.

If we fail to have this war, it will go nuclear.

Very astute, IMO.

This is going to sound extreme, but I just finished my second very strong margarita, so my inhibitions have gone flying out the window . . . I hope that it does go nuclear. Before you flame me, let me explain my reasoning. I hope the Palestinians or Hezbollah use a dirty bomb. Why? Because then the Israelis can respond with nuclear force without being handcuffed by "world opinion." I believe that these terrorists have to be annhilated. They are evil. Period. Exclamation point. This is a religious war, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. The very survival of civilization depends on the outcome of this struggle. Thus, the sooner that the handcuffs of "world opinion" are loosed from the Israelis, the sooner the ultimate resolution of this epic struggle can be realized. OK, have at me. Like I said, I've had two very strong margaritas, so I can handle what you all throw at me.

I think the Pope feels he must make such 'weaselly' comments to show support to the Marionite & other Christians who are in communion with Rome. I assume he is advised that such comments make their precarious existence, less precarious.
Personally I think the Islamic beasts only respect strength and show of 'reasonableness' they interpret as weakness.

Reuters' headline writer turned Sodano's remark into a one-sided condemnation of Israel.

Sodano was JPII's Secy of State and has been a leftist since day one. This is typical of his statements for the past many years, but is actually better than most because he actually acknowleged terrorism as a cause. For him, he was pretty moderate in his statement. Sodano is being retired by the new Pope Benedict and being replaced in September, btw. Obviously, not soon enough

No. He was right. Where do you think we would be if we had not ousted him? For starters we wouldn't have our presence right smack between Siria and Iran.

I don't know about the war, but I do predict this thread is going to go "nuclear."

Only if someone brings up illegal immigration.

Oops.

Isaiah 17 fortells that Damascus will be laid to a ruiness heap overnight, never to be a city again.

Damascus is the worlds oldest city. Since it's founding it has ALWAYS been there. Damascus is home to the terrorists organiztions Israel is seeking to root out and destroy, Hamas AND Hezbollah.

During the opening rounds of this war one of Israels first targets were the main road and supply line from Damascus Syria to Beirut Lebanon.

Iran keeps warning Israel NOT to hit Syria almost as if to taunt them to a dare. Iran has also said that IF Syria is attacked that it will unite the muslim world.

Well, at some point, as per biblical prophecy, Iran with all the other nations that surround Israel minus Syria, will come against them.

This is the Gog/Magog alliance.

Things are undeniably playing out EXACTLY as it was foretold it would. ARE YOU READY?
