Decision Time: Will this war go nuclear?
www.frontpagemag.com ^ | 7/14/2006 | David Horowitz

Posted on 07/14/2006 3:23:40 PM PDT by elizabethr

Here is the situation: World leaders are lining up, either on the side of the Islamic terrorists (Chirac and Putin) or the side of their victims (the United States and -- somewhat -- Great Britain). The Vatican, which has an unsavory record in regard to the periodic slaughters of the Jews has thrown its moral weight (such as it is these days) onto the scales against the Jews. As the Hizbollah terrorists fire hundreds of rockets into Israeli cities from Lebanon and the Pope condemns Israel's attempts to destroy the rockets aimed at its citizens, Israel's chief of staff is forced to concede that those rockets can reach farther than previously thought, putting more Israelis in danger. Meanwhile, the Syrian terrorist state tells Time magazine that it could destroy Israel's nuclear sites. Hizbollah, Hamas, Iran and Syria occupy areas that are one hundred times the size of Israel and the populations they control are ten times the size of Israel's. Hizbollah and Hamas, and their patron Iran, have sworn to remove Israel from the face of the earth -- in those very words. Iran has defied the world community in asserting its determination to complete its nuclear program. Syria supports Iran, hosts Hamas and is a party to this malignant Islamic crusade. Behind them stand Russia and China and North Korea, and also apparently the international left which is lining up squarely behind the jihadists -- and has been doing so throughout the open preparation of this second holocaust. The left's favorite apostle Noam Chomsky only months ago was embracing Hizbollah's Hitler, Hassan Nasrallah, and his genocidal agendas.

So here is the issue: If you were Israel's prime minister, could you afford to wait until Iran attains nuclear warheads for Hizbollah's missiles? Or can you be sure it hasn't already been supplied such warheads by Russia or China through Iran? Could you afford to wait to see if Syria will supply the chemical and biological weapons it has cached for Saddam Hussein to Hizbollah and Hamas? Or would you proceed to plan B and obliterate them now?

While the Israeli prime minister ponders this question, leftists who are encouraging the forces of genocide -- Hizbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran -- might want to think how all the present bloodshed and the next terrible decisions that Israel must take to defend itself -- and their consequences -- will lie on their heads.

I read the Washington Times, I read Bill Gertz, I read everything in public domain about what the satellites see in Iran, etc etc. Nobody with their eyes even half open is fooled in the slighest anymore, it is all too blatant even to require commentary.

Now the traitors will appear and explain that Putin walks on water and slices bread for orphaned paralytics with his thoughts with one eye tied behind his left buttock. We've heard it all before, it was a pack of lies the first thousand times and it is still a pack of lies.

Is there a better description for Hizbollah, Hamas, and all of fundamental Islam than "purely evil"?

But Israel isn't JUST attacking these terrorist organizations. They are also attacking Lebanon, a soveriegn state with a large Catholic population that didn't do anything to be attacked.

I can understand Israel attacking Hizbollah strongholds in the sections of the country that the Lebanese government does not control. That's where the missiles are coming from, after all. I can even understand attacking Shiite parts of Beirut, as the populace there tends to support Hizbollah. I cannot understand them hitting Christian and Sunni civilian sections of central Beirut, as neither of these populations supports Hizbollah.

The Pope always tells whoever is attacking to stop. Is it the right thing to do here? No IMO.

This will go nuclear IMO because the President of Iran fancies himself a prophet and he would gladly blow up all of Israel and surrounding Muslim lands with nuclear weapons because he'll figure in a thousand years Muslims will get it back without the Jewish people IMO.

That is why IMO in many ways the Iranian President may have to be dealt with.

Generally speaking, most men of God will speak out against any war. the freeper shouldn't have called the Pope an imbecile.

Yep, that was extreme.

What many don't understand is many priests live in another reality that is not in anyway associated with the realities of life.

This though is not a situation where you turn the other cheek because they'll gladly take you head.

Islam needs to reform or it will IMO be forced by the world at some point to cease as a religion and bill be banned as an evil cult.

"Damascus is the worlds oldest city."

Really?

It should have read Damascus is the worlds oldest continuously inhabited city

They are also attacking Lebanon, a soveriegn state with a large Catholic population that didn't do anything to be attacked.

If I understand you correctly, you maintain that Israel is deliberately attacking parts of Lebanon not involved with the terorists. I suppose taking out the airports, some roads and bridges could be interpreted that way. But I see no deliberate attacks upon non-terror civilian populations. Are the terrorists leasing or appropriating office space in the Christian part of Beirut? They use their own women and children as human shields, why would they hesitate to use Christians?

As for Shiite/Sunni distinctions, a Muslim is a Muslim; the "good" ones are only biding their time until they are strong enough to strike.

Lebanon has forfieted its national sovereignty by allowing the terrorist cancer to grow in it without opposition. Lebanon's only hope is to remove all Muslims so the largely Christian population can live in peace. Who better to assist in this endeavor than Israel?

Respond with nuclear force against whom?

Mecca, Medina and Qum, for starters. Followed by Damascus and Tehran, and all miltary and nuclear facilities in Iran.

They are bombing civilian infrastructure (airports, bridges, and seaports), that are of no use to the terrorists, as far as I can see. Now maybe I'm wrong: maybe the terrorists are using these things in ways that I don't see. If that's the case I'm open to correction, but given the information I have before me, it doesn't seem likely.

As for Shiite/Sunni distinctions, a Muslim is a Muslim; the "good" ones are only biding their time until they are strong enough to strike.

The point isn't that some Moslems are good. The point is that the Lebanese Sunnis aren't supporters of Hezbollah and don't have much animus against Israel. That's a fact, like it or not.

Lebanese Sunnis don't like Palestinians very much, either.

Lebanon has forfieted its national sovereignty by allowing the terrorist cancer to grow in it without opposition.

This is absurd. Lebanon just got its sovereignty less than a year ago. It is weak, poor, and has next to no military resources. It has been under the thumb of a pro-Hezbollah Shiite Syrian occupation for more than 2 decades. Now, you expect them to get rid of a Syrian and Iranian-backed Hezbollah, less than a year after their occupation ended?

Get real.

Lebanon's only hope is to remove all Muslims so the largely Christian population can live in peace. Who better to assist in this endeavor than Israel

I agree. It doesn't look to me, however, that Israel's current actions are doing anything to lead to this result.

Those rockets and missiles are moving about somehow, as are the terrorists. They may or may not be using airports and seaports, but are certainly using roads and bridges.

It has been under the thumb of a pro-Hezbollah Shiite Syrian occupation for more than 2 decades. Now, you expect them to get rid of a Syrian and Iranian-backed Hezbollah, less than a year after their occupation ended?

I expect to see some indication of an effort to do so. Of course, if the good guys do something to the terorists, the media won't cover it, so maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt.

the Lebanese Sunnis aren't supporters of Hezbollah and don't have much animus against Israel. That's a fact, like it or not.

Lebanese Sunnis don't like Palestinians very much, either.

They may not support Hezbollah, and NOBODY likes the Palis, but I decline to believe that they would not cheer heartily to see all the Jews driven into the sea.

I agree. It doesn't look to me, however, that Israel's current actions are doing anything to lead to this result.

That we can partly agree upon, but (like our border problem) you have to plug the leak before you bail out the water. They have to hit the terrorists hard before assisting the Lebanese Christians with arms and training.

Actually, I do. We're not talking about Ivan crashing through Western Europe.

The Russian Army??? This is the same outfit that got slaughtered by a few hundred Chechens in the streets of Groszny. Taking Iran would be a much bigger, tougher task.

"We haven't had a German Pope for 500 years and this imbecile decides to open up a big mouth against Israel after they responded to attacks made after they tried to make peace."

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I'm going to assume that others have already pointed out that it is you that is the imbicile and idiot. However, if this has somehow been overlooked, by all means let me be the one to inform you.

"Here's an FYI. During WWII, the Vatican knew of the atrocities being carried out by the Nazis and did nothing to stop it. Some clergy actually participated. The pope at the time (Pius the ???) was known as "Hitler's Pope"."

Parroting anti-Catholic falsehoods, I see. Actually, no other organization probably did more to save Jews in Europe than the Catholic Church. Pope Piux XII (that would be the "Pius the ???" that you think you know oh so much about, is credited with saving around 860,000 Jews during WWII. The Chief Rabbi of Rome during WWII, Israel Zolli, converted to Catholicism after the war and took the name Eugenio, which was Pope Pius XII's given name, to honor the Pope for his efforts on behalf of the Jews.

Upon Pius XII's death, Golda Meir, future Prime Minister of Israel said, "We share the grief of the world over the death of His Holiness Pius XII. . . . During the ten years of Nazi terror, when our people passed through the horrors of martyrdom, the Pope raised his voice to condemn the persecutors and to commiserate with their victims"

Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress, said, "With special gratitude we remember all he has done for the persecuted Jews during one of the darkest periods in their entire history."

Finally, Albert Einstein said after the war, "Only the Catholic Church protested against the Hitlerian onslaught on liberty. Up till then I had not been interested in the Church, but today I feel a great admiration for the Church, which alone has had the courage to struggle for spiritual truth and moral liberty."

So, instead of eagerly lapping up the lies told by today's MSM about Pope Pius XII, find out what his contemporaries had to say about him. You will find a much different picture from the sensationalist writings about him in our times.
