Decision Time: Will this war go nuclear?
www.frontpagemag.com ^ | 7/14/2006 | David Horowitz

Posted on 07/14/2006 3:23:40 PM PDT by elizabethr

Here is the situation: World leaders are lining up, either on the side of the Islamic terrorists (Chirac and Putin) or the side of their victims (the United States and -- somewhat -- Great Britain). The Vatican, which has an unsavory record in regard to the periodic slaughters of the Jews has thrown its moral weight (such as it is these days) onto the scales against the Jews. As the Hizbollah terrorists fire hundreds of rockets into Israeli cities from Lebanon and the Pope condemns Israel's attempts to destroy the rockets aimed at its citizens, Israel's chief of staff is forced to concede that those rockets can reach farther than previously thought, putting more Israelis in danger. Meanwhile, the Syrian terrorist state tells Time magazine that it could destroy Israel's nuclear sites. Hizbollah, Hamas, Iran and Syria occupy areas that are one hundred times the size of Israel and the populations they control are ten times the size of Israel's. Hizbollah and Hamas, and their patron Iran, have sworn to remove Israel from the face of the earth -- in those very words. Iran has defied the world community in asserting its determination to complete its nuclear program. Syria supports Iran, hosts Hamas and is a party to this malignant Islamic crusade. Behind them stand Russia and China and North Korea, and also apparently the international left which is lining up squarely behind the jihadists -- and has been doing so throughout the open preparation of this second holocaust. The left's favorite apostle Noam Chomsky only months ago was embracing Hizbollah's Hitler, Hassan Nasrallah, and his genocidal agendas.

So here is the issue: If you were Israel's prime minister, could you afford to wait until Iran attains nuclear warheads for Hizbollah's missiles? Or can you be sure it hasn't already been supplied such warheads by Russia or China through Iran? Could you afford to wait to see if Syria will supply the chemical and biological weapons it has cached for Saddam Hussein to Hizbollah and Hamas? Or would you proceed to plan B and obliterate them now?

While the Israeli prime minister ponders this question, leftists who are encouraging the forces of genocide -- Hizbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran -- might want to think how all the present bloodshed and the next terrible decisions that Israel must take to defend itself -- and their consequences -- will lie on their heads.

Nuclear, no. But what's been long needed has been this response to the jihadies:
"You call that terrorism? I'll show you 'terrorism', b*tch!"

Upon which, you lay down the greatest air-to-ground show the moonworshippers have ever seen.

The fact that you thought Horowitz should expand on his comments had me thinking your knowledge of the facts were about nil. I'm not Catholic so I don't give a rats ass which pope Pius it was.

During WWII, the Vatican knew of the atrocities being carried out by the Nazis and did nothing to stop it. Some clergy actually participated. The pope at the time (Pius the ???) was known as "Hitler's Pope".

I see that you have had your share of kool-aid in reference to the outright lies and propaganda used against the Catholic Church.

Amid the flood of tributes to Pope Pius XII following his death on October 9, 1958, those of Jewish leaders were especially warm. "During the ten years of Nazi terror," said Golda Meir, then Israeli representative to the United Nations and later Prime Minister of Israel, "the Pope raised his voice to condemn the persecutors and to commiserate with their victims." Elio Toaff, who as Rome’s Chief Rabbi would one day welcome another pope to his synagogue, said that Italian Jews "more than anyone else . . . had the opportunity to appreciate the great kindness, filled with compassion and magnanimity, that the Pope displayed during the terrible years of persecution and terror." The tributes of major rabbis in New York alone were so numerous that it took three issues of the New York Times to report them all. Praise came also from the Jewish press. "There was probably not a single ruler of our generation," wrote the Winnipeg Jewish Post, "who did more to help the Jews in their hour of greatest tragedy . . . than the late Pope."

At least it looks like there are quite a few people, who surely know more about what happened than you do, who also see that what you say is pure garbage:

"I should like you to take this occasion to express to His Holiness my deeply-felt appreciation of the frequent action which the Holy See has taken on its own initiative in its generous and merciful efforts to render assistance to the victims of racial and religious persecutions." Franklin D. Roosevelt to Myron C. Taylor, August 3, 1944

". . . I told him [the Pope] that my first duty was to thank him , and through him, the Catholic Church, on behalf of the Jewish public, for all they had done in the various countries to rescue Jews, to save children, and Jews in general." Moshe Sharett, Later First Israeli Foreign Minister (April 1945)

"When fearful martyrdom came to our people, the voice of the pope was raised for its victims." Golda Meir, Israeli Foreign (October 1958)

"He was a great and good man, and I loved him." Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery,London Sunday Times (October 12, 1958)

"Pope Pius XII did not remain silent." Jeno Levai (1966)

". . . the Catholic Church, under the pontificate of Pope Pius XII was instrumental in saving at least 700,000, but probably as many as 860,000, Jews from certain death at Nazi hands." Pinchas E. Lapide, Three Popes and the Jews (1967)

"What we can say already, in light of what we have learned, is that the Nazis considered Pius XII and his collaborators as their greatest enemies, and that, reciprocally, the Pope and his entourage saw the Nazis as criminals working for the destruction of the Church and civilization." Jean Chelini, Le Figaro (October 8, 1983)

But go right ahead and believe the lies and propaganda against the Catholic Church and "Hitler's Pope". What a crock.

The fact that he mentioned "periodic slaughters of Jews" led me to believe that he had a few specific historical incidents in mind, not just one.

I suspect his grasp of the facts is so poor that he really has none in mind.

I'm not Catholic so I don't give a rats ass which pope Pius it was.

Then it's kind of odd that you are so overly concerned about what Pope Benedict has to say.

I agree with you -- but a Victory Garden is a little difficult here in the desert when it's 116 at 8 o'clock at night.

"or certainly is going to be soon"

I am not so sure. This is not in Israel's style. Too slow to start. Look at their history when they went to war. They were always big on the lighting war style. (Except '73 but then they were attacked first.. and could have lost).

Years ago I read that speed is Israel's style by choice (faster to get to an end by keeping the majority of the fighting off their lands and deep in enemy territory), and by necessity (not enough territory to drag out a war... no room for any retreats).

This is not their style or manner of fighting. I think it went beyond what they originally intended it to go to at this point.

Unless they hoped that the idiot pali's and supporters would make a stupid move and give the Israeli's a reason to go further.

Whatever, I get a sense It is not going to be a 7 day war like in '67.... this is dragging out too much. At least for something they initiated as a planed military operation. Right now it seems more like a police reaction instead of a military action.

FYI, the Catholics were also victims of the Holocaust, which was noted during the Nuremberg Trials:

Justice Jackson's Opening Statement for the Prosecution

Against their opponents, including Jews, Catholics, and free labor, the Nazis directed such a campaign of arrogance, brutality, and annihilation as the world has not witnessed since the pre-Christian ages.

Nuremberg Trials

Catholic Heroes of the Holocaust:

Coumbia Education

From THE BUTTON PROJECT JEWISH FEDERATION OF PEORIA:

"Over 5 million Non-Jewish Victims were exterminated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. 3 million of those victims were Poles and Catholics. To learn more about non-Jewish victims check out a web site of interest at www.holocaustforgotten.com.

I have nothing against Catholics. Most of my family is Catholic. I'm sure many Catholics did all they could and probably sacrificed their own lives to help the jews. But the Vatican did not. I'm just remembering the history I've read. And if the Vatican did so much, why did they apologize to the Jews in 1998 for remaining silent during WWII?

I have not. I probably have a different take than most of FR on prophecies. I believe Biblical prophecies of course, and believe that they either have or will come literally true. As to the other prophecies, I read about them, and consider them, but make no judgment.

I have no idea what the position of the Vatican is on the prophecies of Malachi, but I do know that they apparently accepted the prophecies of Fatima, as it was verified by the church. The things I read about Malachi Martin appear to confirm that he believes the third secret of Fatima was that Satan would enter the Catholic Church in 1972. I have absolutely no idea what to make of it. I'll give the book a read, though. Thanks for the post.

I just showed you proof in the form of quotations from people who were actually there, and lived through the Holocaust up close, about how much the Vatican did to help those being targeted, and you still say that the Vatican did nothing. I think you need to read about actual history, not blatantly biased history that is told by bigots. Remember, many history books also say that the Civil War was fought solely because of slavery, Rosa Parks single handedly started the civil rights movement, and that the Cold War ended because of the brilliance of Mikhail Gorbachev.

I'm sure there is a strategy. They may need to move more slowly, because if the other players throw in their hand, Israel knows they'll need our participation. It will have to be done with tact.

I agree wholeheartedly. This war is our last chance. If Israel backs off, she is doomed. Iran will use a nuclear weapon if allowed to possess one. We will be dragged into a nuclear exchange and the Islamic vermin will inherit the wasteland.

If you had read the ENTIRE press release, he condemned the attacks on Israel and the kidnapping. Simply put there are Catholics and other Christians in Lebanon who the Pope has every reason to be concerned about.

If he had jumped up and down, clapped his hands at glee at the thought of war, came out with "go kick some a$$ Israel" and prayed innocent people were killed, he wouldn't be a Christian. He'd be the some psychopathic Iman muslims pray too.

You should read "The Myth of Hitler's Pope" by Rabbi David G. Dalin. In his book he claims that Pope Pius XII "was praised by all the leading Jews of his day for his role in saving more Jews than Schindler." Shindler, another Catholic helping the Jewish people.

"I have yet to see anything that "unites" Muslims. "

Yes there was. Remember Iraq after their army collapsed? The Muzis are all like inner city gangs. When there are no police or other force they are like Hyenas or buzzards.

They love to steal, rob, and kill. They are dysfunctional children... with guns.
