PBS board nomination raises eyebrows (Of Liberals)

NEW YORK — Less than a year after the chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting was forced to resign amid charges that he injected partisanship into the agency, President Bush has nominated a television sitcom producer who has described himself as "thoroughly conservative in ways that strike horror into the hearts of my Hollywood colleagues" to the nonprofit's board.

The nomination of Warren Bell, executive producer of ABC's "According to Jim" and a contributor to the online edition of the conservative National Review magazine, has raised fears he could revive the sharp political debate that engulfed the system last year.

Bell said he was surprised by his nomination but stressed he had no intention of letting his personal political beliefs influence his role on the board. He asked skeptics to withhold judgment until they have a chance to hear about his goals.

"I have every intention of working in a nonpartisan fashion with CPB," he said.

But Bell's past comments have raised eyebrows among some Democrats who serve on the Senate Commerce Committee, which must approve his nomination. Questions about his qualifications are expected to dominate his confirmation hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.

There's no question Bell is outspoken. In frequent postings to the National Review Online, he described himself as a "not-so-secret conservative" and lamented the liberalism of colleagues in the entertainment industry.

For all their huffing and puffing liberals don't like a level playing field. They can only win by having judges who can't or won't read.

As long as the political divide continues to deepen, the future of our Republic remains grave. That the liberal CPB is funded by taxpayer monies and continues to press liberal ideology while extending the "Conservatives Not Welcome!" sign on the front door of every PBS affiliate, is a travesty.

Until/unless we start replacing our current crop of polarized and partisan politicians with diplomats whose primary focus is the future of America and NOT their political party, we will only continue to add to the epitaph of the greatest social and political experiment that the world has ever seen.

Think of it as a way to finally be able to de-fund the CPB: make it to the right of Rush Limbaugh

Hah! We are frequently told that libreal news people do not let their personal viewpoints taint the objectivity of their reporting. For some reason the same argument does not hold for conservatives? What conservatives are less disciplined than liberals? Hahahahaha, good one.

Sad that the Republicans in Congress don't have the guts to just de-fund the thing. Taxpayers shouldn't be involuntarily paying for public broadcasting, particularly if it's just going to be a propaganda organ for both parties to fight for control over.

I'd love to be able to think of it in those terms. Because of the opening fusilade from the leftists, I fear that he will make PBS MORE liberal just to prove that he isn't letting his political persuasion influence him. It wouldn't be the first time.

I think this author is confusing the Libs' stand re: PBS with their plan for our nation's security.

injected partisanship into the agency

Have they ever watched or listened to CPB product? They are the most unabashedly Leftist organization in the USA. This isn't an "interjection" of partisanship, it attempt to create balance in an out of control group. Here is a thought Leftists. Lets simply cut the purse strings and you can pay for your OWN propaganda outlet instead of forcing working class taxpayers to subsidies YOUR rich elitest playpen

Utter hysterical absurd nonsense. It is EXACTLY this "can we not all get along" dogma that result in NOTHING being done. The political Leftist have no interest in getting along with you. The want dominion over you. Thus your sort of "Can't we get along" "realists" always ends up surrendering continually to the Political Leftists hyper partisanship. This is a "Solution" of Moral Cowardice. Don't stand up to wrong, simply surrender to it. That is so much easier. Everyone is so worried about "Being diplomatic" in Washington DC, they forget to STAND for anything. So you get this paralyzing by committee. Stranding FOR something is called "Leadership" Consensus is the ABSENCE of any leadership.

PBS when I surf quickly through it, is either old British comedy or documentaries about how non-whites in this country have suffered. The later seems to be about 3/4 of the programming.

I think you are right on this. Being a strong Conservative it is hard to admit that the right is not doing much about getting government off our backs. In that sense the dumbocraps have been more honest telling us they want government everywhere.

Want proof? We have all the votes needed in the House, Senate and the Oval Office yet we cannot even get rid of PBS. PBS and funding for the arts are not a proper use of Federal Taxpayers dollars yet those on our side of the political aisle fail to act like we were told they would do.

If all our levels of government take their marching orders from the 2 major political parties then how the heck are we to believe we have a representative republic? In NY State if any politician dares to go off their respective GOP's or Dumbocrap's reservation and vote with the other side there is hell to pay and funding for future elections can dry up in a New York minute.

We are so caught up in the left vs right debates that we are oblivious to the fact that in truth it is the political parties vs the taxpayers.

Perhaps you should try re-reading my post with an open mind. The term "diplomats" was carefully and intentionally employed.
