At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Bush traveled to northeastern Germany in advance of his participation in the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Chancellor Merkel hosted President Bush today in the towns of Stralsund and Trinwillershagen, which are in the Chancellor's electoral constituency. The visit, which took place in what had been communist East Germany, underscores our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity, and to strengthening the transatlantic partnership.
The President and the Chancellor took part in a joint press conference in the Straslund Town Hall, and the President also spoke in the historic market square. The First Lady visited a Kinderbibliothek (Children's Library) and toured Straslund City Archives and Baroque library, and attended a luncheon.
The First Couple visited St. Nikolai Church and toured it with Pastor Peter Neumann, and later traveled to the village of Trinwillershagen on the German Baltic Sea for a wild pig barbecue.
In tumultuous times it is reassuring to have a President who stands firm on principle and in strength of conviction and courage. Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on a MONSTER Dose!
She definitely seems to have a good sense of humour.
Love the expression on the President's face with the crying baby.
Hi, ODC-Girl,
It's really nice to have you back with us again. And thanks for the beautiful pictures.
But as a Swede who has had to endure pickled herring at Christmas time, I'd say he could be mocking the smell as well.....
Thanks for tonight's Dose, ohio. What a great batch of photos!
That's why I always order TAIL!!!
A sign of a happily married couple
Amen!
You are right about that! I have been to pig roasts before and they sure don't look that nasty! :)
Do you like herring or just eat it 'cause you had to?
I wonder how many countries that used to be part of the Soviet Bloc he has visited so far? People who have lived without freedom Really appreciate the outlook and heart of President Bush.
There is no picute of our military that does not grab my heart. Add in the VP, hard to beat that. And you get to be part of it. How wonderful.
I think the three pix of W with the baby in post 55 are great if you can get 'em all together.
Wonderful dose and I know from experience how long it takes especially sorting the photos - great job.
Well, we found out today that in all the flooding in the area, a woman drowned trying to rescue her daughter just a few miles from here. (The daughter lived).
I'm sure the whole family needs a LOT of prayer right now.
Even in the briefest time you get while shaking hands, he came across as very interested, sincere, and charming. He thanked me (I was in uniform), asked me where I was from and met my whole family. It was a wonderful encounter.
By the way, thank you for your always fascinating, informative posts!
He has SO much fun..........no wonder Laura kinda likes him. :)
Oh, that is so sad. I can't imagine the grief.
I like her!
