More Than 60 People Gather in Pompano (Beach, FL) to Protest Construction of Mosque
South Florida Sun-Sentinel ^ | 7/12/2006 | Gregory Lewis & Ana Ribeiro

POMPANO BEACH -- Dozens of black residents, joined by some whites and Hispanics, rallied Tuesday in front of City Hall to protest plans to move a mosque into the predominantly black northwest area.

More than 60 people responded to a call by a group of ministers for the protest, demanding that the City Commission rescind the permission it gave the Islamic Center of South Florida to move into the neighborhood. The mosque plans to build a 29,000-square-foot center on a 4.8-acre site where residents want to see affordable homes....

Led by the Rev. O'Neal Dozier of the Worldwide Christian Center, protesters carried signs opposing the relocation of the mosque from the city's northeast area. Some called Muslims "dangerous" and "terrorists."

Dozier, who last week called Islam a cult, said in an interview commissioners face repercussions at the ballot box if they do not change the June 14 decision. If the commissioners didn't change their minds, Dozier said, he would sue the city.

"We must remember that no matter how peaceful many Muslims seem to be, their core religion's doctrine allows for no other faith to exist peacefully alongside them," Dozier told the commissioners during a public comment period....

At the end of the meeting, Mayor John Raysom said he wouldn't like the city to prohibit any church or religion.

At the end of the meeting, Mayor John Raysom said he wouldn't like the city to prohibit any church or religion.

I saw Mayor Raysom speaking on the "We Report, You Decide" segment of the Fox Report tonight in the 7 pm EDT hour. He sounded like a big left-wing multiculturalist. According to a Miami Herald article, Rayson is a former Democratic state legislator for Broward Country. Why am I not surprised? He's now running for the Broward County Circuit Court. He needs to be stopped!

There's also this detail from the full Sun-Sentinel article:

Inside the commission's chambers, Dozier also repeated some of the rhetoric that prompted Gov. Jeb Bush's office to ask him to resign from Broward County's Judicial Nominating Committee recently.

Ah, even a black community leader cannot make a public stand against the encroachment of Islam locally!! They're becoming a protected class.

What a bunch of bigots! Why wouldn't anyone want the Wahhabies setting up shop in their neighborhood.

This guy understands the situation.

Put the issue before the local citizens to decide via voting....
I can see the argument to allow the mosque for religious liberties however islam can pose a real dangerous element and so Rev. Dozier raises a valid point in opposing the mosque. Let the people vote and decide the matter....
(unless some black-robed tyrant overthrows the will of the people) Still...put the issue to a vote.

I wouldn't want a terrorist factory in my neighborhood either. Islam is not a religion, it's a cult.

Islamic Terrorist Safehouse Center of South Florida.

With their kindness and good intentions, we will kill them.
With their laws and tolerant ways we will cause them to suffer.
With their quiet acceptance of us we will cause them to burn.
We will have won the war before the battle has been joined.

Mayor John Raysom said he wouldn't like the city to prohibit any church or religion

Would this include those "religions" that promote child sacrifice?

He's a Godless Leftist. Child sacrifice IS his religion.

I saw him saying that it is an evil religion. Let's test that, shall we?
Does it lead one to faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ?
Nope....
Ergo, EVIL

(for my Jewish friends, study of how He fulfills the Messianic Prophecies leads many to faith in Him so, not evil. Incomplete perhaps but not evil.)

Ah, the Lord to St. Elias (Elijah) on Mt. Horeb. That's a great scene from the Bible.

Back when a lot of people on FR were strong backers of the "Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA)", some of us here were saying: "Just wait 'till you discover that you can't stop some *other* religion from building a mega-facility drawing hundreds of cars across the street from *your* house - RLUIPA is yet another Federal law gutting local control ....".BR>

Well, here you have it.

After all legal means fail, bury a few pigs on the site, that will make the Islamist look elswhere.
