You all might find this damn funny, but my sorry ass is marooned in Beirut, where I have been working for the IMF. If anybody has any helpful suggestions on how I can get out of this war zone, I would be most grateful. Right now, the road to Syria is the only way out of Lebanon for anyone, including U.S. citizens, and the Israelis are bombing that road. I am NOT happy with the Israelis right now. I understand their concerns about their kidnapped soldiers but bombing the Beirut Airport was not going to help them in any way.

Maybe that's one of the reasons Chiraq's been blasting Israel. To get Hezbollah to allow French citizens to leave without a problem.

It worked well for the French in WWII. They were able to keep half of France and get rid of their Jews too ...

I came to this late, but my prayers for Rebelyell's safety, and everyone else stuck there. I found out yesterday my neighbors sister in law is stuck in Lebonon. Her husband is Lebonese and they were visiting family. Please pray for them also.

Perhaps take the back ways to syria. One of the Lebanese blogs said the Israelis are focusing on the main highway, but the many, many dirt roads to syria remain open and untouched. Those soldiers are probably in iran by now if that's the case, but that's another story.

According to the reports, there are about 25,000 Americans trapped in Lebanon. How many of those are dual Lebanon/US citizens? When things get tough, how many of those dual citizens find it convenient to declare themselves US citizens?

I'm not overly offended that they're expected to pay something for the trip out-it shouldn't be anything exorbitant. They paid to get there, after all. They wouldn't need rescuing if they hadn't made the choice to go.

Good thing there wasn't some tsunami or earthquake, I'd hate to have to charge all those people for their rescue too...

According to the 'student' on Fox News, she was laying by the pool until the bombs started falling. After all, according to her, it's our fault for not getting them out immediately. Maybe she should have been listening to the news instead of hanging out at the pool.

Did you miss the part where she said she and others were in an Arabic Language Abroad program? I would think they could have a day off perhaps...I mean until just a few days ago, Beirut was a peaceful place, regaining it's prior history as a big tourist spot too.
