Democrats Favored On Most Issues; Bush Approval Down (FOX poll)
FOX News ^ | 7/13/2006 | Dana Blanton

Posted on 07/13/2006 12:27:31 PM PDT by wjersey

Less than four months before Election Day, the latest FOX News Poll finds that voters strongly favor the Democrats on key issues such as the economy and gas prices, and give the minority party a double-digit lead for control of Congress this fall. For most of President Bush’s second term in office, more Americans have said they disapprove than approve of his job performance and that is again the case in this new poll.

The president’s approval rating dropped to 36 percent, down from 41 percent approval two weeks ago and 40 percent in mid-June. Bush lost ground this week among some key constituent groups, such as Republicans, whites and men. Overall, 53 percent of Americans say they disapprove.

"It is important to remember that the president got his bounce after the killing of al-Zarqawi in Iraq," comments Opinion Dynamics Chairman John Gorman. "While administration officials were careful not to overplay the significance of this, it naturally created hope that things would get better. Several weeks of bloody footage from Iraq have pretty much dashed those hopes."

Despite the negative views on the job he’s doing, Americans believe President Bush has had a tough job assignment. A 61 percent majority — including 48 percent of Democrats, 62 percent of independents and 75 percent of Republicans — thinks Bush has had to face a larger number of difficult situations than most presidents deal with during their terms in office.

Americans think the most important issues facing the country today are Iraq (21 percent), the economy (11 percent) and health care (10 percent). On each of these, Democrats are seen as the party that can do a better job —

In question 4.

"Thinking ahead to this November’s elections, if the congressional election were held today, would you vote for the Democratic candidate in your district or the Republican candidate in your district? (If undecided) Well, if you had to vote, which way would you lean?"

42% of the respondents were Democrat just 34% Republican.

The poll is not believable. Fox is getting as bad as ABC, using its own polls as "news" and no regard to how skewed the poll data is.

When Bush was at 40% in the last Fox Poll the sample was 38% Democrats and 36% Republicans. Todays poll shows a 6% advantage (40-34)for the democrats. Had the sampling been adjusted to the 2004 election sampling 37%-37%. The president would probably be polling around 39%. Which at that point would be statistical noise. You would never get that in depth analysis from the MSM. Only from Slowhand520!!!

Which only goes to show that the responders to this poll aren't exactly geniuses.

I can understand why Iraq is a big concern, but how exactly is "the economy" a troublesome issue for the President? We have full employment, low inflation and a housing boom that has lasted longer than any I can recall. What do these people want?

GAS PRICES ALWAYS GO DOWN AFTER LABOR DAY!!!! Bush and the GOP will have 2 months after the Holiday to enjoy lower gas prices due to less Summer Driving. Also Rove will advise the President to release oil reserves, ala Clinton, which will bring prices down $1 a gallon prior to Election day. C'MON FOLKS TAKE A ECONOMICS AND HISTORY CLASS!!!!

Yeah....already I feel "sick" on THAT one.

I think states should REALLY seriously think about secession now, if the Democrats get control of Congress again.

I don't think I can handle more New Deal, Great Society, and "I feel your pain" programs.....taxes up the wazzoo to support aliens, leeches, bums, and entitlements-dependent low-life is draining on every working person's income already........

Doesn't matter what the reality is, what matters is the PERCEPTION. Average Joe sees gas prices at pump and grunts, Average Joe sees GOP in charge in DC, Average Joe opens paper and sees headlines blaming Bush, Average Joe shakes his fist and either sits home on Election Day or votes for the local Dem.

For all their bluster about being the "intellectual" party, what the Dems really want is a dull and uninformed voter acting on raw emotion.

The polls may not be perfect, but considering the lack knowledge of Americans on important events, it's probably close. The average American doesn't have a clue about how free-market economics works. To add to that disturbing fact, what "info" they get from Big Media is decidedly biased. Many Americans do believe that high gas prices are due to price-gouging Big Oil with complicity from Bush and congressional Republicans. Sad but true.

Oh? You mean like the biggest expansion of Medicare since it's inception? Or, do you mean the Open Border's leeches in the WH and the Senate? Oops! Sorry, that's what these Republican's have already brought US. Are you under the impression that these same Republican's if re-elected, are not going to raise your taxes to pay for this trash? Whack! Thank you sir, can I have another? The rat's aren't the answer, neither are the republicrat's. Blackbird.

I always wonder if people in these polls are really dumb enough to think democrats are better for the economy and taxes. Do these people have a clue? The same can be said for just about every issue (defense, etc.).

Hey Bird, what is the alternative to the GOP? I realize some Conservatives want the GOP lose come November so that someone like Sam Brownback can retake the party, but that would be suicide. If botox Pelosi becomes Speaker, the Republicans will not get the House back for another 30 years. So if you stay home and not vote, don't whine when a Democratic Ways and Means Committee raises your taxes along with Gay Barney Frank running the Banking branch. Along with Marxist John conyers looking for Slave Reparations. What are you gonna do Bird???
