BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is investigating a pit bull attack that sent a Boca Raton man and his dog to a hospital.

Last Thursday, Curtis Harris said he was walking his 5-year-old retriever-mix in the Palmetto Pines neighborhood when two pit bulls attacked them.

Harris was treated for bites to his elbows, legs and hands. His dog Rascal received numerous bites, and his leg was shattered.

Harris said two women had to pull the pit bulls off him and his dog.

"I'm a combat veteran. I was in Vietnam, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like that," Harris said. "These dogs were out to kill something."

Rascal is in an

Neighbors told WPTV in West Palm Beach that the owner of the pit bulls told them the dogs got out of his house.

What a useless article, there is no quote from the owner about what sweet dogs they are, and that he has never had any problems with them before.

Why does this story remind me of Islamic Fascists attacks upon free and peaceful innocents?

I do hope their wounds heal quickly and well for the walker and his sweet dog, but I imagine the trauma will remain a long time for both of them.

We are RV owners and have noticed more and more campgrounds ban all large dogs but almost always specify pit bulls. The best pit bull is a loaded gun that can go off with or without notice. Owners should be on notice…no free first bite.

There is nothing positive a pit bull can give you that another breed of dog can't provide and most kinds of dog aren't capable of the harm a pit bull is. I know a few of the usual suspects will be on here in a few minutes to tell us a basset hound is just as dangerous but its a load of crap. Owning a pit bull is like owning a weapon with a mind of its own.

I remember a story about a pitbull that tried to attack a nile monitor lounging in a yard next door in Costa Mesa. It's one of the few stories I've read about pitbull attacks in which the pitbull didn't survive.

"We are RV owners and have noticed more and more campgrounds ban all large dogs but almost always specify pit bulls."

The Proprieters would be nuts to take on the liability of "my sweet pit bull that wouldn't harm a fly".

I consider it a true measure of how serious the situation in the middle east is that this thread is only at 15 replies. :)
