Biggest concern is human and dog waste contained in a trench, Forest Service says...
Between 300 and 500 people remain in Big Red Park this week after the mass exodus of people from the Rainbow Gathering in Medicine Bow/Routt County National Forest.
The Forest Service is working with these people this week to develop the environmental rehabilitation process, after an estimated 15,000 people attended the annual event.
So far, approximately 600 citations have been distributed by the Forest Service for camping and parking violations.
The Forest Services biggest concern regarding the rehabilitation is the human and dog waste, which is contained in deep trenches in designated areas throughout the 2-miles-wide, 4-miles-long area of impacted land, Vogel said.
Vogel has no reports of abandoned animals at this time, though the Forest Service is expecting to find some.
The hospital reports roughly 75 patients ...
Other problems :
There was an initial outbreak of the parvovirus early in the week of the gathering in dozens of dogs, which the Routt County Humane Society addressed with $800 and 200 doses of vaccine.
The Forest Services incident-management team will be costly, though no figures can be estimated at this time

Shovels and lime
The slit trenches or the hippies?
Nasty hippies.
A hippie use a shovel? Or any tool for that matter? Surely you jest. ;-)
The work is expected to take a week to pick up all the trash that was left behind...
Go to any rock show and you'll see filth and litter generation that is mind boggling. Contrast that to events conservatives attend, no comparison.
The Rainbow Family gatherings are a magnet for outsiders who are pedophiles.
The Rainbow People are crunchier than your average Caveman, who at least orders the Grilled Chicken with Mango Chutney.
I was living in Monterey in 1968; the pigs were huddling in a corner holding their noses.
In my evolution from a befuddled teenager to a conservative young adult, one of the last dogmas of my school/liberal parents I jettisoned was the blind, unfocused worship of the environment through environmentalism. There is a difference between environmentalism and conservationism (same root as conservative). The latter involves practical, thoughtfulm generally individual measures to ensure the preservation of civilization and nature together. The former is an unbending ideology that is more about glorying in one's own self-righteousness the helping either the Earth or anything/anyone dwelling upon it.
Wait??? Litter??? The environmentalists left litter?? Surely Rove and Bush manufactured that lie.
The old media gives cover to these phony, alleged, eco-nuts...
Their dogs will run wild and kill the native wildlife, too.
Back when I lived in Missouri ten years ago or so, there was a Rainbow gathering at one of the local national parks. A lot of them became very ill because they used the bathroom upstream from where they camped. You couldn't pay me enough to step foot in a park when these are held.
I'll never forget what I saw just after everyone cleared off from Dan's Bake Sale. There was a small army of janitorial people from the city of Fort Collins lined up waiting to pick up trash...
...but there weren't even cigarette butts in the gutters. All they had to do was empty the trash containers, which were admittedly filled to overflowing (but the ones I saw were actually tastefully arranged, as if a large trash pile was trying to impersonate a flower arrangement).
The shock on the workers' faces was priceless.
When these hippies are wacked out on their drugs, they will drink from the streams downstream from their toilets.
They use the forest generally as a toilet and a dump.
"Biggest concern is human and dog waste."
The dog waste we can live with.
Drugged out psychotics are something else. We are already overloaded with them in both houses of Congress. Lets shoot them and rocket them to North Korea as a kind of a joke. OK?
