I have a cousin in Nova Scotia who used to work for the forestry dept.

He said hunters and fishermen always cleaned up after themselves and the college tree huggers always left beer cans, garbage, human fecal waste etc..

For every one hunter or fisherman he fined, there were at least ten "environmentalists" fined.

The Rainbow People are crunchier than your average Caveman, who at least orders the Grilled Chicken with Mango Chutney.

In my evolution from a befuddled teenager to a conservative young adult, one of the last dogmas of my school/liberal parents I jettisoned was the blind, unfocused worship of the environment through environmentalism. There is a difference between environmentalism and conservationism (same root as conservative). The latter involves practical, thoughtfulm generally individual measures to ensure the preservation of civilization and nature together. The former is an unbending ideology that is more about glorying in one's own self-righteousness the helping either the Earth or anything/anyone dwelling upon it.

Back when I lived in Missouri ten years ago or so, there was a Rainbow gathering at one of the local national parks. A lot of them became very ill because they used the bathroom upstream from where they camped. You couldn't pay me enough to step foot in a park when these are held.

"Biggest concern is human and dog waste."

The dog waste we can live with.

Drugged out psychotics are something else. We are already overloaded with them in both houses of Congress. Lets shoot them and rocket them to North Korea as a kind of a joke. OK?

Well the worst of the enviro-hippies is the "know-it-all, first-semester hippies."

The Forest Service’s incident-management team will be costly, though no figures can be estimated at this time

This is a big part of the problem. The Rainbows don't PAY THEIR WAY. They want other people to do it for them.

They want to worship Gaia wherever darn well they want to, then want to leave the costs behind them. Some will help with the rehabilitation, but the bill has to be eaten.

No surprise, really. I attended a Rainbow Gathering in Vermont back in 1990. the corwd was typical for that organization: dirty hippies trading sheets of LSD for oranges (their goal was to dose the world, I kid you not) and myriad felons on the run (Gatherings were notorious for harbouring criminals). Nothing scared the Forest service more than a Rainbow gathering back then. Basically all attendees were left alone for fear of any repercussions that might befall members of the Forestry service or the police.

I say we all pitch in, buy the land and put a hugh building that we can use for the servers, operations and functions of Free Republic. We can have a media center, broadcasting the news that the Fox News graveyard shift seems to forget about reporting. We can also use it to coordinate FReeps nationwide.

Just a thought.
