Democrat Jon Tester leads Republican Senator Conrad Burns 50% to 43% making Burns the second most vulnerable Senator this year (Pennsylvania's Rick Santorum is still the most vulnerable). This is the first Rasmussen Reports election poll in Montana since since Tester won his party's primary victory to become the Democrat's nominee.

OK I'll say it. Jon Tester - how appropriate for a Dem.
No surprise here. The Jack Abramoff scandal has really hobbed Conrad Burns from the day they were linked. And Burns' explanations are unconvincing so far.
Montana has a lot of the Cali libs moving in.....
I've tested many a john -- and mostly passed.
That's part of it, but many of the Californians buying land there only use Montana as a vacation home and don't really live there.
By the way, you have an excellent tag line.
I watched their first debate. Tester clearly won and the moderator helped him in that regard. Burns is not as articulate or fast on his feet. Hopefully, the core constituency will vote the party and not have two Dem senators representing Montana.
I wonder if Tester has a brother, Fester Bester Tester and his friend Karbunkle...
Somehow Testers message, cut and run, will catch up to him.
It does not look promising.
LOL- Good one!
I have watched with sadness as, over the past 30 years, the Lunatic Left has taken-over (through immigration) what was a once wonderfully beautiful conservative western state.
Why didn't Burns get out of this race??? Other leading Republican candidates beat Tester in head to head polls in this race. Now the GOP will have to spend a fortune trying to protect the seat of a guy who probably would have only served one more term anyway since he's so old now. And in the end he's going to cost us a seat we can ill afford to lose. Ridiculous, really ridiculous.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of pointng out pat williams, mike mansfield and the other folks that beautiful conservative western state have sent to washington... montana always had a heavy dose of the unions and progressivism in its politics... just think senator burton k. wheeler
I have lived in Montana for 35 years and am horrified to see the changes that the left coast libs have made to my state. They are swarming in like a plague of locusts bringing their traffic jams, higher taxes, land prices in the clouds with them. Montana is no longer a great place to live because of the population explosion primarily from California. Montana has become californicated!!!
I strongly suspect that Conrad Burns will not be a member of the 2007 Senate. Sad too, we likely could have kept this seat had Burns stepped down.
"Why didn't Burns get out of the race???"
Ego and a sense of entitlement. He's caught Patomic Fever and his party will pay the price.
Yup, now we'll have to spend millions for years to come trying to get it back. It's one thing to allow the Dems. to capture the low hanging fruit in blue states like Pennsylvania, but to cede Senate territory to them in red states like MT. is just galling. Burns needs to put his ego in check and get the hell out of this race and allow a more winnable Republican take his place. It's not as if he's any kind of force in the Senate anyway.
I couldn't have put it any better, myself.
