What have conservatives got to be angry about?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 7/10/2006 | Bill McClellan

Posted on 07/11/2006 6:02:15 AM PDT by erikm88

I came into the newsroom Friday morning and expected to see a lot of long faces. We liberals had taken such a whipping on Thursday that the Friday paper was filled with bad news. I'm sure our night staff worked hard to slant things, but sometimes things go so badly that even the valiant efforts of the left-leaning Main Stream Media aren't enough to hide the truth.

You're right about that, but when you read historical accounts of Clinton's years, this is cited as his "crowning achievement."

We're angry because it's going to take generations to untie the knot of the 60's, for one thing.
We're angry because we can't even bring this country together against an enemy as vivid as jihadism/ radical islam. "Liberals" and adolescent-type socialists are in control of our schools, churches, and news media. Many of their orthodoxies prevail in our culture now, to the point where we're actually debating a kooky nonsensical idea like homosexual "marriage". Or "gay" unions. (Hell, they even seem to be in control of our language.)
And what's this guy talking about anyway? "Progressives" are fracking FURIOUS all the time. The world is coming to an end! Something must be done! Hasn't he had a look at their internet forums? They're so angry, at least conservatives have the solace of being amused everytime they're provoked into another losing argument.

(I'm in St. Charles Co.)

Same here

I've never watched the PBS program.

You're not missing much. :)

St. Louis city is 100% Democrat. St. Charles county is majority Republican. It's one of the reasons why STL city is continually losing people to the suburbs.

Dear Bill,
I'll tell you why we're still angry. The federal government continues to grow larger and larger. As one of our wise Founding Fathers said " A government that is big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you own". Our national debt is up to 6 or 7 TRILLION dollars as our esteemed legislators of both parties continue to spend taxpayer dollars like drunken sailors. Ultimately this will debase our currency and make all those 401K dollars that conservatives and liberals alike have been saving worthless. Our leaders continue to ignore the 70-80% of the country that would like our borders with Mexico and Canada secured. Is that enough?

Liberalism is an Emotion, not a Thought Process, so thats why they have such difficulty with facts and truth, as Ann C brillantly points out in "Godless".

------ It's a satirical piece--he's "showing" how "ridiculous" it is to think such things go on in the newsroom.------

This is a common method of dismissing conservative complaints... exaggerate what really goes on, dismiss the complaint, and make your opponent out to be making things up out of nothing.

Like suggesting that the only problem Bill Clinton had was "lying over sex" when we know it was much worse than that. It was overtly lying while under oath about an affair with a subordinate, in the Oval Office, on government time.

And to ignore the deaths of Vince Foster, Ron Brown and the fundraising scandals, and the people who fled the country when investigators got close, and the national security secrets that went to countries that illegally contributed to Clinton's campaign....it goes on and on...

And continually losing companies to other cities and/or states (e.g. SBC)

Great points.

I've yet to hear a single Clinton supporter admit it wasn't "just about sex". They can't even acknowledge when someone explicitly says "Nope, that's not what it was about to me, at least." I was one of those who thought "That's it?" when the charges came out, until I looked into it myself. I couldn't and don't care about Clinton's sex life; I care about a sitting President who tells us about the evils of sexual harassment--and if I recall rightly, he signed a bill into law making what he did illegal, something that's never, ever mentioned when discussing Billgate--and lies under sworn oath. But it's all just about sex, blah blah blah...

I just sent the author an e-mail:

WHAT HAVE CONSERVATIVES GOT TO BE ANGRY ABOUT

The treason of the New York Times

The fact that the Republicans are not governing conservatively.

The obstruction of Senate Democrats on President George Bush’s judicial nominations.

The continual whining by Democrats that Gore won the election, and it was stolen by the Bush Family Evil Empire.

The continual whining by the Democrats that Kerry won the election, and it was stolen by the Bush Family Evil Empire.

The treason of John Murtha.

The treason of John Kerry.

Continued high taxes.

Continued high immigration, both legal and illegal, but especially illegal.

The excuse for said immigration that there are “jobs Americans won’t do”, when what is meant is “there are jobs Americans won’t do at the near starvation wages I want to pay them.”

The arrogant and superior attitude of liberals. Their insufferable smugness.

The manipulation of the news by the main stream media.

Dan Rather and his lies.

The total inability of Democrats to beat George Bush, and their total inability to understand that it’s because he’s smarter than they are.

That’s just off the top of my head. I could go on for an hour. But who’s angry. The frustrated howling of Democrats across the country lets us know who the real angry souls are, and they are not the conservatives, but the Democrats, from the highest echelons of Washington power to the dampness of their mother’s basements where they blog in mindless fury. The Democrats are the party of hate and anger.

Clinton was the guy who pushed through welfare reform.

Huh? What dope is this guy smoking? I recall Liar Bill vetoing the thing two or three times until he was shamed into signing it again.

And then AlGore talked about repealing it.

Typical liberal columnist: rarely right about anything.

Actually, Clintoon cheezed a lot of dems off. They saw him as a redneck southerner and hated him for being a moderate.

Actually, through the magic of sarcasm, what the guy is saying is that most people see newspapers as biased and slanted. I don't think that he is admitting that they are. (They are, btw)

"...but sometimes things go so badly that even the valiant efforts of the left-leaning Main Stream Media aren't enough to hide the truth...

...So much for our plans to undermine the institution of marriage...

...but we love to see the Trial Lawyers take a bite out of American industry. Any American industry. We hate the free enterprise system..."

Kind of a "Oh honey I was jusk kidding about a ménage with your best friend" moment.

You don't have one yet?

I've got a Mazda Airborne. It gets good gas mileage, too.
