A modest proposal: Let’s dump the entire tax code. Let’s gather all the tax documents we can find, put them in a big heap, and have a nationally televised Tax Code Burning Day. If the tax lobbies protest, toss them on the fire, too.

Tax Code Burning Day is possibly a bit extreme, but the idea of chucking our income tax system has been around for quite a while.

When I suggested 10 years ago that we were all suffering from TDB - Tax Debate Burnout - 5,000 readers agreed. They sent in letters and postcards in support of then-Congressman Dick Armey, R-Flower Mound, and his proposal for a simple flat tax.

The only problem with the Armey flat tax proposal was that it didn’t go far enough. We need to chuck the entire tax system - we need to eliminate the income tax, the employment tax, the corporate tax and the inheritance tax. We need to start over.

Yes, there's just lots to love there - and with the FairTax in general.

You'd be surprised - amazed , actually - how many both in Congress and out are getting the idea that the voters are fed up with the same-old same-old.

Even within Congress, there are speeches that show this sentiment is changing (for the better). There's even an understanding developing that with a tax like the FairTax, it will help to educate a whole new breed of taxpayer who actively RESENTS his (very visible) tax money on bubble gum being taken and blown for no good reason.

As this continues under the FairTax, CongressCats will become FAR more realistic about spending (with a healthy dose of boot-in-the-butt from voters). Remaining in office, after all, is Job One to these guys.

I honestly don't expect any of this to come to a vote in the next 20 years. People will just have to struggle along under the current IRS code, because the ability to micromanage tax policy is too valuable for politicians to give up.

No, it's not an entitlement but a return of taxes. With a family that size there would have to be substantial expenditures for necessities (decided upon by the family itself, not the government) and general living expenses.

And entitlement is:

"... a government program providing benefits to members of a specified group ..."

The FairTax is not a government "program" but a tax law nor does it provide benefits to members of a "specified group" but basically to all citizens. Call it what you like however (since you've show that you will regardless of the facts). Demagogue away and mislead as many as you can who buy into your claptrap!!

Actually - it's a GREAT idea! What symbolism that creates in the mind. Who wouldn't picture that and sign on!

This would create a great rallying call - get the attention of the many, many folk out there who still don't have a clue about FAIR TAX. Time to start a "Victory Bonfire" rally call...It would get attention - it's a headline grabber - and in turn, the FAIR TAX would get the exposure we need if we are going to have a snow balls chance...

Let's roll on this - we need an artist to create a visual...something that instantly grabs peoples attention and tells them - Time to break the chains that bind. Let's create a NEW National Holiday: IRS FREE FOREVER DAY.

Actually many years ago when Britain overturned their first income tax, the citizens were so happy they built bonfires in the streets - many using previous tax books, forms, and tax law books.

In other words, we 'real people' - or as the congress-critters and senators like to think of us "Joe Sixpacts" - would have to buy a he*l of a lot before the the Nat. sales tax would impact our bottom line.

However, the very wealthy, who would have the exact same level of tax relief, would -- beyond that level - finally be paying their FAIR SHARE.

Just as outrageous, though, is Congress's willingness to use the tax code for 'social engineering'--which is the real reason that the tax code will never be scrapped. So sad.

Not if we have a defeatist attitude -

For the first time in my lifetime (and I'm a great-grandmother) We the People have a chance to abolish the IRS once and for all. There are a lot more of 'us' - The US in the U.S. - than them.

It we lay down and roll over on this, we will never get the chance again - and we will be ruled by the Socialists in Democrats clothing.

We would be the freest country in the world - but it is being looked at with great interest by people in other countries also. If we push this thru, other countries WILL follow...and the politicians of the world will have their wings clipped back to being the 'servants' of the public, not the other way around.

WE got a shot at true freedom and equality here, folks. Let's not let this window of opportunity close on us.

One big hurdle we have to knock down - and I have seen it even in here - is the almost accepted attitude that "WE" can do nothing, that DC is in charge.

An entitlement is taking from one class of citizens and giving to another.

FAIR TAX gives benefits/living level 'breaks' to everyone, regardless of income.

The only "entitlement' involved is that everyone will have income to maintain living expenses before taxes kicks in...the same level for you, me, and sKerry...

Frankly, I don't care about that. I wouldn't turn down a check in the mail, any more than I turn down the income tax credits for my numerous offspring, but I'd much rather see lower rates for everyone, whether it's sales tax rates or income tax rates.

Agreed 110% ... and that means MORE FREEDOM!!! Long overdue.

Under the FairTax, the "new breed" of taxpayer (the one who sees what "his government" costs him on each and every receipt) will be plenty vocal vis-a-vis reducing spending. It's his money ... and he sees it very plainly.
