As we celebrate the 230th birthday of the United States of America, our president joined the ideological, and perhaps biological, descendants of those who fought to give us our freedom by creating this new nation. The president went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, to speak to and eat with the troops and their families (who gave him a birthday cake).
He will return to the White House for a July 4th celebration with family and friends. That will also serve as a birthday party for the President.
Hi Mrs. T .. how's psycho girl doing? LOL .. I hope she's much better. (Mom's designation, not mine ;)
They have an advance team that does a spectacular job of coordinating colors, ties, other clothing, backdrops, and every other type of effect. Somebody *gets it* in the WH and at the GOP right now about the need to put out a coordinated visual message. The cool thing is that when W shows up all coordinated, he actually has something of substance to say.
So much different that bubba and the WINO's Hollywood friends who put together those schmaltzy videos about the hollow man from Hope, etc.
and the WW2 memorial
You know, I had that as the second photo in the top segment and changed it for the one where you can see the flag. Good eye!
I think it was during the run-up to the war and this was one of the first groups of NG to be called up to active duty. I'm not sure if it was right before the war started or right after .. but his running to greet these young people always brought a tear to my eye.
What it told me was not just his love for them, but his realization that some of them would end up losing their lives. He has always shown them how much he values their sacrifice.
Church bells still ring here in the evenings and as church is starting. Not everywhere, but sometimes. Our church is so "new" it doesn't even have a bell to ring.
I just wish I could thank every member of the military who ever lived, to give us such freedom, to make our shores and our heartland so free, so blessed, so prosperous! Especially those who labored under the hatred of their fellow "citizens" for making and preserving our freedoms.

Hi Bill. We must have the same brand of monitor.
Happy Fourth to you and yours.
They just cannot stand it that we can think for ourselves, and don't agree with their "superior" point of view.
Thanks for the Dose, Gretchen!
Thanks for those pictures, SCB. The Korean War Memorial is so amazing. It's haunting the way they come out of the trees. I can only imagine how powerful it is in person.
I was afraid I'd be the only one around today. Hubby isn't feeling well, so we're just hanging out at home.
I was not prepared for it. I had never heard a world about it, so almost skipped it, in my tiredness. But it is mesmerizing. Best ever. The statues are so tall, and the eyes on them so compelling that you want to look away. I read that they were depicted in raincoats because it was always cold and wet there. I will now most the wall there It is eerie.
I love all of the memorials but the Korean one is very unique. I esp like it in winter when there is snow all around & no visible pathways...
Have been there & "shot" it a couple times in past couple years
I'm hanging around here tonight, too. Both kids are mad at me, my sinuses are acting up, and I've had more than enough fireworks in the last two days, including one into my leg. (very minor damage; mostly just mad about it.)
I have a dumb question, are the statues life-size or larger?
Snarlin here - they are larger. I'd guess about 8-9' tall.
The Korean War Memorial is incredible. I doubt that there was ever one like it.
Can you post what breaches of teenage etiquette you ruffled your kids with?
