A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 7.4.06

As we celebrate the 230th birthday of the United States of America, our president joined the ideological, and perhaps biological, descendants of those who fought to give us our freedom by creating this new nation. The president went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, to speak to and eat with the troops and their families (who gave him a birthday cake).

He will return to the White House for a July 4th celebration with family and friends. That will also serve as a birthday party for the President.

That is really something. DC is on my list of places I want to visit some day. I figure between all the war memorials, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence I should bring at least a box and a half of tissue. ;-)

Thanks! It's hard to tell in the picture. I was just curious.

Thank you! How sweet of you.

I have sent it to my grandson (Spec Ops) and my son-in-law, Navy Pilot, and one of my sons, who works security/safety at KSC - (20 years) - on the booster rockets. This was a big day for him - and all of us.

Again, Thank you

"what kind of steak was it? "

New York strip! I went to fire up the grill and discovered we were out of charcoal. So being the lazy person I am (!) I just pan fried it with season salt! Turned out quite well!

In those photos you posted of the Korean War Memorial and the WW2 War Memorial, it seems to me that the
Korea one memorializes the war in "War Memorial" and the WW2 one memorializes the memorial in "War Memorial." (Sanitizes it.)

The cool thing is that when W shows up all coordinated, he actually has something of substance to say.

And unlike others who we could name - but why soil the atmosphere - he looks totally at home in anything he wears - and, more importantly, at home in his skin.

He looks REAL. He knows who he is and doesn't have to put on a front.

Very good point. HOnestly, the VN and WW2 memorials left me kind of cold (which I was not expecting), but the Korean War memorial touched me deeply. I kept thinking "why haven't I heard anything about this memorial?"

It totally mystifies me how anyone could look at that picture of Bush and the troops and not see the kind of man he is. I have read some horrible things people have said about the President and I just can't see it in his face. I don't always agree with everything the President does but this picture proves he's a real person with real feelings and wants to do what's right by our soldiers.

I suppose . . .

Last night at the party we were all at, Cody and a bunch of friends headed to a vehicle, obviously intending to drive somewhere. I called him on his cell phone (rather than running down the block yelling, "Cody, sweetie pie, where are you going?") to see what their plans were. THey were very vague, involving looking for someone's cell phone. Now, at 11:00 at night, there is nothing good that can come from 6 teenagers cramming into a tiny car and driving around with no plan. So I said "NO". And he had to (gasp--the HORROR!!) get out of the car and come back to the party. At that point he said he hoped I was happy because I've "completely ruined" his life "for the next five months."

I just told Morgan she could not stay overnight at the home of her friend, her mom being a FORMER friend of mine who since a little to-do over a year ago has lied about me to many people. Last time Morgan was over there, the mom took the kids to someone else's house to watch them while she and her husband went out, not even telling me they were going to do that. I just don't trust the mother to keep close enough watch on them.

Do you think I'm going to need to turn my mommy pin in? LOL!

Sorry about your husband's earache!

RE: My "injury" . . . I was mostly peeved because the kids AND some of the parents thought it was really cute to throw firecrackers right behind people to "scare" them. Right before my sr. year of nursing school I worked one 4th of July and all night took care of a kid who'd had a firecracker blow up in his face, causing him to lose his eye and he had brain damage. Wandered around all night wondering where he was and what had happened. I KNOW the chances of that happening are rare but people just are not as careful as I think they should be. (end of rant!)

Now I'm off to a late-evening barbeque to celebrate another year of freedom and to be thankful that we've not had another major terror attack on our own soil, thanks to President Bush.

Have a wonderful evening, all.

I am an art historian who was married to two Tv directors, so I pick up on it. It have a very important pyschological effect. As you watch, he becomes one in your mind with whatever he is keyed into. Here it is troops, there it was the No chruch. I know Cokie Roberts said she hated it. that's because it works.

Nope Keep it polished!

he said he hoped I was happy because I've "completely ruined" his life "for the next five months."

Better 'five months' than he get into a situation that ruins it for life.

I raised 4 sons and a daughter - was a 'mean' mom too. I now have 15 grandkids and it is super fun to see them being the same 'mean' parents...More than once I've had them say "NOW I understand, Mom."

Funny thing is with kids - they kick against the fences, but only because, deep down, they want the security of knowing they are still protected by them (you).

Hang tough, Mom...
