This just gets my goat!!! I was doing a search today to find out where some local fireworks will be displayed tomorrow, and came across this note on the Los Angeles " calendar". I am appauled that the City Council has now declared July 4th, " Salute Los Angeles" day!! Just another small indication that we are in serious trouble here in Los Angeles!!!!!!!! Please tell me if I am posting this in the wrong place, and even misinterpreting what the City Council has done, but I am livid , if in fact they will be diluting down our precious National Celebration of Freedom .I just don't like the sound of it. Ok here goes!!!!!!!

Here is what I found:

1776 doesn't mean anything to LA. Aztlan wants a regional holiday.

I think a lot of cities hold festivities in conjunction with national holidays and give them their own name.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see a smoking gun in this. I hate L.A. but not for this...

Maybe you are right pgyanke, but it just hit me the wrong way to have the title "Salute to Los Angeles Day" declared by our city council. Guess I am just too suspicious now.

I don't think so. Independence Day, at least where I've lived, always had as its focus the nation and the flag.

I'm with you on this. There is just no national allegiance, except for the money they get from homeland security. We all know eventually they will work this money into some socialists spending somehow. Am I getting a bit cynical? Maybe just seeing more clearly. After seeing how bad it got in San Francisco with their city council, I am just a bit weary here as well.

I just cringed inside imagining our Major and City Council drawing away attention from the Nation to make it a local celebration!! Declaring it " Salute to Los Angeles Day" . SICKENING!!!!!!!

This is the significace of the date July 4th, 1847...

The 29 Star Flag 1847:

This Flag became the Official United States Flag on July 4th, 1847. A star was added for the admission of * (29th) Iowa - December 28, 1846

I suppose they will be flying the "Fiesta Flag"

I don't see where July 4th has any special place in Los Angeles' history.

It appears that the date is more worthy of being mentioned when it's Mexico's independence than when it's our own.

Put me down on the "militant" side here. This is cultural treason. LA is lost. I'm certain that the civil war between illegals and Americans we all know is coming will start there; my only question is when.

I don't see anything wrong with having a 'salute to L.A.' day, but why put it on the fourth, unless this was indeed a deliberate attempt to smear and denigrate the real meaning of the fourth of July (which I wouldn't put past them.)
