We Need Fewer Secrets (JIMMY CARTER)

We Need Fewer Secrets

By Jimmy Carter Monday, July 3, 2006; A21

The U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) turns 40 tomorrow, the day we celebrate our independence. But this anniversary will not be a day of celebration for the right to information in our country. Our government leaders have become increasingly obsessed with secrecy. Obstructionist policies and deficient practices have ensured that many important public documents and official actions remain hidden from our view.

The events in our nation today -- war, civil rights violations, spiraling energy costs, campaign finance and lobbyist scandals -- dictate the growing need and citizens' desire for access to public documents. A poll conducted last year found that 70 percent of Americans are either somewhat or very concerned about government secrecy. This is understandable when the U.S. government uses at least 50 designations to restrict unclassified information and created 81 percent more "secrets" in 2005 than in 2000, according to the watchdog coalition OpenTheGovernment.org.

He's right. Look at what Sandy Berger and the NYTimes have had to do.

i DEPLORE Jimmuh Peanut and his traitorous poop.

AND THERE ARE MANY SECRETS THAT ARE PROPERLY KEPT AND THE NY SLIMES NEEDS PROSECUTED AND THOSE RESPONSIBLE IMPRISONED.

However, I have to note that on this score, he's probably more than 50% correct.

There ARE probably even worse traitors embedded in too many sections of our country's government--witness the US SENATE--who are trying hard to race us into a tyrannical global government.

And, they use UNNECESSARY secrecy to hide and assist their traitorous goals.

But, Peanut's pontificating will result in no significant change. It will have the usual effect of his farting out both ends.

I just wish to note that at some point in the future, we will see how horribly correct he was on this point.

It's kind of like, clusters of traitors in a lot of areas of government are keeping secrets which ought to be disclosed for the good of the USA and our culture, if not the world.

And slimey other traitors--perhaps sometimes the same groups--are busy disclosing through such as the NY SLIMES those things which OUGHT TO BE KEPT SECRET AND WHICH ARE NECESSARILY SECRET before traitorous disclosure.

Those who have difficulty keeping 2 more or less contradictory things in mind at the same time, I'll put on my flame and hazmat suits. But please don't hold your breaths for a reply.

Life is complex in the best of times. In our era, the complexities and convolutions are escalating more or less astronomically. One can PRETEND otherwise. But Pretending doesn't make it so.

Hm... Jimmy Carter... That's the dude who was hooked on UFOs, right? Gunna take office and show the world evidence of little green men?

Why anyone takes this cackling jackal seriously is beyond me. WAY beyond me.

If Jimmy Carter would simply come out and admit in no uncertain terms that he is a socialist, I'd be able to find a crumb of respect for him.

But like the "Progressives" these days, he has to lie. He calls for everything the socialist agenda calls for, but refuses to label it what it really is.

They don't seem to realize that there are enough muttonheads in this country that they would probably sustain a lot of their current level of support, since most Dems seem to believe that the purpose of government is to tell them how to live their lives and then provide them the means to do as instructed.

As long as they will continue to be such a BS party, I can't do anything but dismiss them without a second thought. Having zero political integrity, not having the courage of their convictions, and having to lie about their very essence, they are a dangerous pack of intellectual wombats we need to be innoculated against in perpetuity.

He is an utter disgrace and a vindictive, vicious man. He has personally harmed my family.

I have zero respect for him and in fact, I despise him most of all.

There is one, huge secret which the nation needs to start keeping, starting today. We do not need to know the next stupidity out of the mouth of Jimmy Carter, our highest ranking gopolitical idiot.

I wish the gentleman no ill will, however....

To borrow a statement from Mark Twain, "If Jimmy Carter's funeral takes place while I am in D.C., I will postpone all other recreation and attend it."

P.S. Interested in a Freeper in Congress? Keep in touch with me.

I'm not surprised by your post. Carter is a hateful little erupting pustule of a man who has done a few good things whiuch don't come near the incredible damage he has done to the world.

take it from one born in the early 40's and voted for him (yes - head hangs in shame)

I voted for his sorry butt, too. (My crystal ball was in the shop at the time.) Actually, Carter did us a favor. He showed us where the Democrat party was headed. Most of us (with a functioning brain) jumped ship.
