Webb rips Bush over Iraq policy
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | July 2, 2006 | JEFF E. SCHAPIRO

Calling Iraq "this quagmire," Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Jim Webb yesterday said President Bush would rather play politics than bring home American troops.

Webb, who is opposing Republican Sen. George Allen, a Bush ally on Iraq, said in the Democratic response to the president's weekly radio address that it is not disloyal to the troops to criticize the war.

"As the occupation of Iraq has continued to drag on, some of our most distinguished retired generals, as well as many members of Congress with strong loyalties to our military, have suggested different approaches for America to remove itself from this quagmire," Webb said.

No one needs to come hard after Webb, he'll self destruct. He's lost his damn mind.

I've just saved you the effort of reading the rest of this piece--you can make up the rest yourself, with 100% accuracy.

Yes, and isn't he also a decorated veteran of Vietnam? And a member of a family with a long tradition of military service? A veritable Michael Moore, this communist Webb.

I think John McCain is all that too, but I still would't vote for him.

Oh, go right ahead and support Webb. He just HAS to be right. I mean, someone who occupied the position he did couldn't ever make a mistake, could he?

ANd he is SO even tempered! Why, I would think he would never fly off the handle, unlike Cheney, who is all the time making rants in public!

Yes, that's it! Webb is an even-tempered person; Cheney and Rumsfeld are delusional!

/sarcasm>

Rome wasn't built in a day. I just made that up. But seriously, this isn't Paris. I'm right proud of those boys who are putting their lives on the line for my freedom. People who are against the mission are not supporting the troops by saying so.

I just don't get it. This cannot be the same Webb that wrote 'Born Fighting'.

I guess some of us are willing to sell out our principles in order to have a shot at political power.

The liberals have beein doing this alot lately. They hide behind heroes and lobb attacks on the POTUS then masquerade as patriotic since those doing the attacking cannot be accused of cut & running.

I can understand Librals playing politics but why would Webb let himself be manipulated like this?

Truely sad!

He not a communist, he is a crazy kook.

There is some great stories about his long, never ending hatred for Oliver North.

North wiped the mat with him in a boxing match many many years ago, and Webb never got over it.

Well, Webb is a war hero, so we can't criticize him.

We have a few guys like him, Hackworth, Webb and Weasley Clark, and the press fawn all over them and make them fell important. There are thousands of people with as much or more credentials than those guys who agree with President Bush and support the war, but you never hear from them on CNN. So it gives a false impression. We need to find a way to counter each Webb with 5 heroes who think he's a jerk. But we are not arguing that we are right because a medal of honor winner or the father of a deceased soldier agrees with us, we are simply saying that there are more of those who agree with us, so why do you show only the opponents?

It amazes me that the Democrats agree with Bush: "We need to bring the Iraq war to an early and honorable end. We need to begin bringing our troops home soon, as the first step toward a complete military pullout from that country."

That is GWB's plan - except he wants the time table to be written by military commanders in Iraq, instead of Michael Moore in Washington.

"We must do this in order to free up our dedicated military people to fight the war we need to win -- the war against international terrorism -- and so that we have the mobility to confront the other strategic challenges, such as the threat of an emerging China."

And what, pray tell, does Webb plan to do with the troops? Is he suggesting we prepare to invade Iran? Is he suggesting we prepare to invade China? Just what does he plan to DO with the 'redeployed' troops?

My guess - he wants to 'redeploy' the troops so we can cut spending on them so he can spend more on democrat projects, like midnight basketball.

The painful part is that I've always admired Webb. This is like watching my Mom slide into Alzheimers...watching someone you've always admired show less and less contact with reality, and more and more delusions and bitterness!

I don't think he sold out, but seeing him on TV and reading some of the stuff he says, it seems he's become a little unhinged and mentally unstable.

Forget the politics for a second, his personality, and his demeanor and even the way he talks, sounds and reacts have all changed and gotten bizarre.

Any democratic party official that knew him before, and met him now, has to realize something has gotten wrong with this guy, his memory is even kind of scattershot, and his recall is error prone, I think he might have dementia or bipolar or something, and its undiagnosed and the democratic party is willing to ignore it for political ends.

IT'S SIMPLE, HILLARY'S STOLEN FBI FILES AND A SCORCHED EARTH POLICY TOWARDS THIS ADMINISTRATION.

I'm very serious.
