If anyone doubts that the most serious threat to American security is the lack of fundamental loyalty on the part of significant segments of our population beginning with members of our intelligence and military agencies (egged on by irresponsibile leaders of the Democratic Party and the media), one has only to read this item from Reuters in today's news. Apparently some officials in the Pentagon, concerned that the White House might take action against Iran have leaked classified information to the press (which the press, of course, is all to eager to publish for our enemies to view). This particular tidbit of damaging information is that America actually doesn't have the military ability to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities. If this information is true, it is invaluable intelligence to the fanatics in Teheran. If it is not true, why would anyone leak it, since leaking it only encourages Iran's nuclear ambitions?
The leaking of this information is espionage -- as clearly defined by America's espionage laws. It provides extraordinarily valuable informaiton for the enemy and at one time would have been considered treasonous and prosecuted. Of course the government is unable to prosecute traitors anymore, it can't even monitor terrorist communications from abroad without having half the country's political actors in an uproar.
The information published by Reuters endangers the security of every American. Obviously the betrayers of America's military secrets ensconced in the Pentagon no longer believe in our democratic process which elects a commander-in-chief. Instead, whoever leaked this information feels authorized -- probably by the New York Times and John Murtha -- to take authority over matters of war and peace into its own hands by leaking national secrets to the enemy (with the aid of a willing media) in order to tie the hands of the elected commander-in-chiefs. But why not, since the entire liberal community, beginning with the Democratic Party leadership and the New York Times is demanding just such behavior so that Americans can defend themselves against an un-elected president who has destroyed our Constitution and launched a useless war under false pretenses.
One of the least appetizing aspects of this liberal war on America's national security is how liberals rationalize their behavior as self-defense.Frank Rich in today's Times accuses the Bush Administration of attacking the media because it is losing the war in Iraq. In other words Bush is the divider and the aggressor. Only to a solipsist like Frank Rich. Half the difficulties of the war in Iraq stem from the interal war that liberals like Rich and the leaders of the Democratic Party have conducted against the Iraq war from its inception. A divided nation is a weak nation and everyone -- friend as well as foe -- knows it. The left's no-holds-barred assault on Bush is rationalized by the left as their noble reaction to the alleged illegality and false pretenses of the war in Iraq. But the war in Iraq has ten times the legitimacy of Clinton's war in Bosnia which received no congressional authorization and had no Security Council ultimatum and no violated truce to justify it. That didn't bother liberals at all because it was their war and solipsistic as they are, no principles other than their self-interest applied to it. As for the charge of false pretenses, the removal of Saddam Hussein by force was called for by Clinton as well as Bush, and was authorized by a Democratic majority in both houses of Congress with full access to the intelligence information on which the decision to go to war was based and which was assembled by a CIA whose director who was a Clinton appointee.
The opposition to this administration and this war is the most disgraceful in the history of this nation. Let's hope these betrayals don't result in another 9/11. Or worse.
YES! that's a bingo. There is nothing more sacred to a leftist than political power. They figure they'll deal with the Islamists later somehow if they only can get back into power.
The Bush administration is under attack not because they are overbearingly powerful but because they do not strike back. The White House needs to take action now!
"How can we win this WOT...the enemy is amongst us, and they are fellow Americans."
They may live in America, they may even be citizens, but they are not Americans. They serve other masters.
Leakers need to be tried for treason and spend the rest of their lives in prison. That should provide a cure for those that want to destroy our security.
Goddammit, where the hell is the administration? Are they going to allow this stuff to continue? I though we had laws against treason.
It's time that these government leakers be identified, prosecuted and thrown in jail for treason. The sooner these traitors are nailed the sooner we'll win the war and get our troops home.
I could give you a couple of answers, really only guesses, but I'm as baffled as you.
See my tagline.
The liberals at all the major news outlets seem to think they are immune from criticism and possible prosecution. I hope the people responsible for the leak and those printing this story are prosecuted, convicted, and hanged in a public square.
Smells like "misinformation" to me!
I'm confident America and Israel could do the job nicely.
Wasn't it Kruschev who said this country would be distroyed without firing a single shot. From within.
Leaking DISINFORMATION....
Do liberals want us to lose the war? Do they hate Bush that much?
I think W represents the America that leftists hate. That America includes all of flag-waving, pro-marriage, pro-American, independent, self-reliant, family-oriented middle-class types here on this site.
And, yes, by their actions and words, I would have to say that they DO want us to lose the war.
"I hope George Bush fails in Iraq". Ellen Ratner. She said this on Vanity and the Skeleton on Fox.
I think that to the Liberals, this is all about regaining that "brief shining moment" -- the essence of power politics at its finest. To other so-called-Americans who are using them, it is all about Anti-Americanism to the point of bringing this country down to the level of a third world country where it belongs (in their eyes).
Neither group understands the true gravity of this war and what their lives would be like if the U.S. does not prevail.
I hope its dockers and button down shirts (i.e. civies) as I would hate to think that its a military person, although that's not out of the realm of possibility.
SOMETHING has got to be done about this. When is the Pentagon, Treasury or whoever, going to ask Justice to initiate a full-fledged investigation?
Oh, we can launch an investigation in the "outing" of that wannabee, "secret agent" Bimbo, Plame, but something like this, that threatens our National Security? A big yawn.
Makes me sick!!!!
See, the problem is that they pretend we give a damn about making it a surgical strike. This is about IRAN getting NUKES. The state that has called us the 'great Satan' for the past twenty-five years. The state that has created more terror than Elton John's outfits. The state that has done its best to piss on our country at every turn. With weapons that can demolish an entire city. With a record of terror longer than this page even rendered in 4 point font.
F the U.N. dithering, we know the result is going to be more useless sanctions, and f this pro-Islamist b.s. about these nukes being built for 'peaceful purposes'--we all know better.
Never was there a more necessary preemptive strike.

Statement from Pentagon Spokesman Lawrence DiRita on Latest Seymour Hersh Article
The Iranian regimes apparent nuclear ambitions and its demonstrated support for terrorist organizations is a global challenge that deserves much more serious treatment than Seymour Hersh provides in the New Yorker article titled The Coming Wars.
Mr. Hershs article is so riddled with errors of fundamental fact that the credibility of his entire piece is destroyed.
Mr. Hershs source(s) feed him with rumor, innuendo, and assertions about meetings that never happened, programs that do not exist, and statements by officials that were never made.
A sampling from this article alone includes:
The post-election meeting he describes between the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff did not happen.
The only civilians in the chain-of-command are the President and the Secretary of Defense, despite Mr. Hershs confident assertion that the chain of command now includes two Department policy officials. His assertion is outrageous, and constitutionally specious.
Arrangements Mr. Hersh alleges between Under Secretary Douglas Feith and Israel, government or non-government, do not exist. Here, Mr. Hersh is building on links created by the soft bigotry of some conspiracy theorists. This reflects poorly on Mr. Hersh and the New Yorker.
Mr. Hersh cannot even keep track of his own wanderings. At one point in his article, he makes the outlandish assertion that the military operations he describes are so secret that the operations are being kept secret even from U.S. military Combatant Commanders. Mr. Hersh later states, though, that the locus of this super-secret activity is at the U.S. Central Command headquarters, evidently without the knowledge of the commander if Mr. Hersh is to be believed.
By his own admission, Mr. Hersh evidently is working on an alternative history novel. He is well along in that work, given the high quality of alternative present that he has developed in several recent articles.
Mr. Hershs preference for single, anonymous, unofficial sources for his most fantastic claims makes it difficult to parse his discussion of Defense Department operations.
Finally, the views and policies Mr. Hersh ascribes to Secretary Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary Wolfowitz, Under Secretary Feith, and other Department of Defense officials do not reflect their public or private comments or administration policy.

"Leakers need to be tried for treason and spend the rest of their lives in prison."
Depending on what they leaked, I would rather see the more serious offenses punished by a firing squad or gallows, but hay, maybe I'm a bit extreme.
The answer is yes, and yes.
We've got to quit wringing our hands and take ACTION. Writing letters and whining is not ACTION. Removing traitors physically, trying them and sending them to prison or the death chamber is the only answer.
