Mfume Leads Cardin In Sharply Divided Primary, Poll Shows
Former NAACP president Kweisi Mfume leads U.S. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin in what is shaping up to be a racially polarized Democratic Senate primary in Maryland, even as roughly a third of the electorate has not settled on a candidate, according to a new Washington Post poll.
For the first time in Maryland history, both major parties have the potential to nominate an African American, and the poll suggests that the hopes of all of the major candidates will depend on their ability to cross racial boundaries for support.
As they stand, the racial divisions are stark: In the primary, Mfume, who is black, gets 72 percent of his support from black voters, the poll shows. Cardin, who is white, gets 82 percent of his backing from white voters.
Then there is Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, who has brought national attention to the Senate campaign because he is one of a handful of African American Republicans whom the national party is counting on to establish credibility among black voters.

supporting kwesis will ensure micheal steele's win,if kwesis loses he will racebait and believe me the black vote will not support cardin; this is gonna be fun to watch because he thought (kwesis) that blacks deserved this senate seat after years of blind devotion, not all's well on the plantation these days
Wait a minute...are there two Senate races running simultaneously in Maryland, or is Steele running for the GOP nomination, Mfume for the Dim nomination, and the two will face off in the general?
Steele will win the GOP nomination. This is a battle between Cardina and Mfume to face Steele in the general election.
The NAACP has a record of picking losers as leaders. I don't know which one is worse...Ben "Sexual Harrassment" Chavis or Kweisi Mfume. I guess when you've dragged an historical black orgnanization into the ground, the only thing left is to run for public office again.
Steele already has the nomination. The Maryland Democrat Party isn't worried to much. Most white liberals are not going to vote for Mfume. Cardin is going to win the Democrat Nomination, that much is written. The 10 million dollar question is Mfume going to endorese Cardin. Mfume know his fellow democrats have been trying to put the screws to his campaign from day one. Mfume could get the last laugh if he gives his support to Steele. Maryland dems will try to go racial on Steele, they already have. I believe it will backfire on them. Maryland Dems are suppositely upset that Steele has taken money from the producers of the Wilie Horton and White Hands political ads. They're fake concern is amusing.Oh well, like the black democrat Salima Siler Marriottsaid last year. Party trumps race. So democrats need to get over it.
I made an online contribution to Steele. Even though I live in California. Country needs more like Steele, especially in the Senate.

(especially in the Senate) - even if it's Maryland Senate. If he can win there, hopefully he can win nationally, someday.
