Hugh Hewitt is using the analogy that it's one thing if everyone knows that police use radar speed traps and quite another for someone to tell where they're set up (that is actually a crime in most states).

I like Hewitt's explanation. Makes sense to me.

Somehow the dems are the gift that keeps on giving.

Sometimes there is something so distracting that it's impossible to pay attention to what they are saying.

I didn't see eyebrow guy till way after the thread.....but when I did, it was all the funnier for having read the thread.

FR ROCKS!!!

I've been so disappointed with the punditry discussion of this topic that I've quit listening because more is to be gained from freeper's than from the highly paid political analyists.

That isn't to be my own drum because that explanation I posted is from another freeper Dems_R_Losers who heard the explanation on the Hugh Hewitt radio show.

The NYT editors originally said said they had to go public because it's the public's right to know about such a secret program. They have since changed that excuse to the fact that there is no harm in their reporting on this program because everyone knew about it anyway. So which one is it?

Civil rights groups certainly didn't know about it. But they do now and are threatening to sue the financial institutions involved in the EU.

Co-Chairman of the 9/11 Commission Kean said that very few people even in the banking world know about SWIFT and how it works, and almost no one would have had any idea that the US was able to get access to this data.

Kean further said that: "The terrorists didn't know the financial transactions went through this one group. Treasury told me, this was a method of financial tracking that people didn't understand, that nobody knew this was how things were done. Top-notch people in the US didn't even know.

a preview of what Greta will ask Mark Furman and Dr. Michael Baden about Natalie Holloway falling off that cruise ship docked at Duke University.

LOL. Perfect.

Sort of like Madeline Albright saying in the Green Room at FNC to Mort Kondracke in the days before the '04 election that the OBL tape was probably engineered by Karl Rove.

LOL. We always knew she was nuts, we just didn't know how nuts.

And when Kondracke reported that exchange, she took to the airwaves to say she was kidding, but other staffers at FNC who heard the entire exchange said it was clear she wasn't kidding at all.

That photo can bring a suicidal despondent back from the brink! I started laughing at the first twitch. Thanks for remembering it. And for posting it.

Let us NOT forget that, yes .. one face of evil at the NYT is the Chairman, is Arthur Sulzberger Jr. (ADDRESS: Gin Lane, Southampton, NY -- phone # is listed), they have a President and CEO ..

Not a spawn of Pelosi, it's Elvira Janet L. Robinson, who according to Forbes magazine, is #77 on the list of 100 Most Powerful Women in the world, as of last July 2005.

#77 Janet Robinson Chief executive, The New York Times Co. U.S.

Published sources include the women's official biographies, Factiva, International Who's Who of 2005, Marquis Who's Who, World Almanac of Famous People, Palgrave Who's Who 2005, the Congressional Yellow Book, the Judicial Yellow Book, Europa World Year Book, Hoover's Online, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings, World Economic Forum, the World Book Encyclopedia. Rankings generated by combining various financial figures with other media and biography metrics; global media mentions from Factiva.

Here's her photo on the NYT site ... entirely different look.

FYI, the Top 10:

1. Condoleezza Rice
2. Wu Yi
3. Yulia Tymoshenko
4. Gloria Arroyo
5. Margaret Whitman
6. Anne Mulcahy
7. Sallie Krawcheck
8. Brenda Barnes
9. Oprah Winfrey
10. Melinda Gates

I just saw a clip of McCain (from which show I didn't notice), but it was discussion of the NYTimes disclosure. McCain flat out laughed at the NYTimes latest spin that everyone knew about it....laughing out loud he said, then why did they report it as a secret? NYTimes is really feeling the heat, which is evidenced by the fact the Keller went on friendly air (Hate the Nation) with Bob Scheiffer who allowed Keller to spin away without even questioning him on the subject. That the talking heads are silent about the two 9/11 commissioners contacting the Times about not reporting is just another indicator that they could care less about the public's right to know. They care only about what they want the public to know. A free press is a fair press, and we DO NOT have that in this group of mainstream media leftwing scumbag clymers.

I therefore suspect the same as you, people will watch it on either, O Reily, H & C or Greta but many not all 3. I have to admit I am a junkie to all 3. :0)

I don't know if I would have admitted that last part.

:)

PS: Sorry about Portugal/England match. Friend down the street (from your great country) has yet to sober up. :)

And if the SWIFT program is hit by terrorists, with death by bombing or beheading of some of their employees, part of the blame will have to be shared by the NYT and LATimes.

If cartoons can cause a worldwide ruckus, how much more this program?

While channel surfing, I did get a glance of Lichtblau on Reliable Sources, and tell me that he doesn't have that deer in the headlights look on his face.

The man has a face for radio and an ability to speak that qualifies him perfectly for print.  I wonder how well he writes without a dozen editors?

If I were him, I might want to see if I can get my deposit back on my summer rental, because if the Justice Department actively pursues this case and if Lichtblau wishes to not reveal a source in front of a grand jury, he may not be spending the summer at the beach in the Hamptons or on Martha's Vineyard or the Jersey shore, but in a place, courtesy of his Uncle Sam.

And he has the examples from Libbygate of how well it works out for the reporters to become (or nearly become) martyrs.  I mean, look how well Judith Miller is doing at the New York Times and Matt Cooper at Time Magazine?  What?  They've both been canned?  Whoda thunk it?

I think that "hard breaks" are programmed for satellite transmissions. I don't understand the technicals, but I'm sure you've seen as I have .. that if the talker goes overtime, he's cut off midstream for the commercial. I don't think they have any studio control for changing the schedule, except in dire situations.

Any thoughts, opinions, analyses on why the revelation of the program was so bad given that its existance was already known?

I'm a bank robber (not really). My business is predicated upon some basic assumptions that include a recognition that there are people out there (cops) that work to stop my activities.

I pursue my plans with this general awareness of their capabilities, but (usually) without specific knowledge of their exact movements.

So what if my buddy at the NYT gives me a ring on the phone and says, "Hey rockrr, didja know that there's a unmarked SWAT team van parked around the corner from your hideout?"

Now I know their specific plans and can try other strategies (because I have no intentions of changing my profession - especially when I have friends like the NYT to assist me!).

Perhaps my analogy is simplistic - the point is that while it was no secret that the US is monitoring all kinds of stuff, it hurts the US when some dimwit discloses specific portions of our tools! Not only does it hurt us but it helps our enemies!

And that is the crux of the matter - the Left does not care about the jeopardies that their acts of treason subjects the United States to, they do so in the full knowledge that they may not just cause setbacks to our efforts to defeat our enemies, but that they will cost American lives!

The Left doesn't care, because it doesn't have to. They won't have to until more people hold them accountable for their despicable actions.

Colmes is not in the same league as Hannity and it shows all the time.

Actually, I would submit that Hannity and Colmes are both equally talented (or not talented, take your pick).  The difference is that Hannity has great material (conservative positions) and Colmes has lousy material (liberal and sometimes extreme left positions) and they still manage to come out fairly even most evenings.  In fact, given that view, Colmes is probably lots better than Hannity.  Imagine how well he'd do if he'd abandon the Dark Side?

They are computer controlled and are in actuality pre-programmed by computer for the entire network of affiliates to all break at the same time. Some hard breaks on radio have been broken before, I don't know how that works, but it seldom happens on tv.
