By the way............ I'm so pissed off that I hope the degree of my PISSEDOFFEDNESS gets me an award next week!

Here's why.

Watching the denented "Meet The Depressed" with Facelift Greenspan (Andrea Mitchell --- Barbra Streisand without the peyote) ............... I saw that they had the audacity (or just what they do ALL THE TIME)............ to end the show with Daniel Ellsberg............. with the comment produced (ABOUT BUSH SUBLIMINALLY)... "the Pentagon Papers and the press halting the abuse of the EXECUTIVE!

What about halting the abuses of the other branches???

I'd like to strangle someone right about now.

A late good morning to all! Excellent comments from a bynch of people! I was weeding and watering before things get too hot here...we are supposed to be in the 90's today.

John Roberts is subbing for Wolf Blitzer. He is currently interviewing the ubiquitous Peter King. Roberts asks if this is political (NYT vs. administration). King says no.

Now he has switched to asking about flag burning. Barney Frank says "freedom of speech allows despicable people to fo disgusting things." And he said it without any hint of irony. LOL!

How did Calif. get not one but two of the dumbest people in the Senate, of the US?

I would almost trade you for the all the zeroes we have here in Fla.

I just wacthed a local show out for miami where both sides of house reps and senators in Fla. are fighting to get a 260 mile buffer from possible oil spills on our precious beaches here in Fla.

Meanwhile the price of gas goes up every week and threatens to destroy the economy of the entire nation doing far more damage than a possible oil spill on our beaches which I should remind the elevated political snobs has yet to happen!! How any legislative body could get away with such demagoguery with no evidence or truth on their side at all is beyond me. And for the vote loving pubbies not to stand up for what is right for the country is really pathetic.Our country desperately needs oil security to help us from having to buy crude form terror types who would just as soon blow up s up, but instead we kneel to the alter of PC BS of theoretical what if situations.

There is never a mention of how oil spills are cleaned up today and how natural occurrences such as red tides cause far more havoc than an oil spill ever could or any logic to any of the arguments by our PC loving reps.

I can't even watch it anymore. It's such a pathetic argument. People willing to sacrifice the what if of our economy for the security of our nation, sad time in America.

Priest still won’t comment on whether McCarthy was one of her sources.

It is probably the case that McCarthy talked to Priest but never used the term “secret prisons.” It is possible that McCarthy wants to distance herself from an allegation that she knows to be dubious, in order to avoid prosecution for revealing classified information to a reporter who exaggerated the story for political reasons.

Priest could take McCarthy off the hook by simply declaring her not to be a source on the story. But she refuses to do that.

None of this is meant to suggest that the Priest story wasn’t true in some minor respects. It now seems clear that the CIA had some kind of classified program to transfer terrorists across Europe. But this doesn’t constitute a network of “secret prisons,” as Priest alleged.

It looks like Priest took some elements of a classified program and transformed them, tabloid-style, into a story that was essentially not true.

She made a controversial program into something that was, as former CIA officer Michael Scheuer put it, “titillating to the world’s media and incentive to America’s European enemies…”

Scheuer, in a December 12, 2005, Washington Times column, wrote about how the Post recklessly pursued this story, and how it helped “destroy the cover of a covert-action capability that took years to perfect.” But Scheuer also referred to how “the CIA’s clandestine counterterrorism cooperation with several allies has been exposed or reported incorrectly…” (emphasis added).

That is how the Priest story became communist-style disinformation.

It not only damaged our anti-terrorism efforts but put the Europeans on a wild goose chase to track down the “secret prisons” that will continue indefinitely. Most of this stems from the initial November 2, 2005, Priest story."

* Indianapolis, Ind.: Bill Bennett told Wolf Blitzer the other day that you should be arrested for your story about secret prisons. Wolf asked Howard Kurtz to respond. Howie looked a little stunned at first and then came strongly to your defense.

How do you respond to people that are saying you should be arrested?

Dana Priest: Well, first, Bennett either doesn't understand the law or is purposefully distorting it. He keeps saying that it is illegal to publish secrets. It is not.

There is a category of secrets that is illegal to publish--names of covert operatives, certain signal intelligence and nuclear secrets--but even with these, prosecution is possible only under certain circumstances. Beyond that though, he seems to be of the camp that the government and only the government should decide what the public should know in the area of national security.

In this sense, his views run contrary to the framers of the Constitution who believed a free press was essential to maintaining not just a democracy, but a strong, vibrant democracy in which major policy is questions are debated in the open.

He also shut down the Race Tracks and depending on a court hearing the casinos will be closed,but notice he did not shut down the toll booths.

I forget who said it but I do know that Richard Clarke wrote about it. I speak specifically of the fact that the terrorists already knew about the bank monitoring program which was the jist of Clarke's editorial.

Let me state this now, softly. *I* knew about the bank monitoring program because, hey, I figured it out!

In recent weeks there have been at least two newspaper reports about Hamas members being caught carrying outrageous amounts of cash across the Kuwait or Syrian border.

Now Hamas is in trouble with money due to the stopping of the monetary flow. One fellow, as I recall, had over a million bucks stuffed in his underwear.

My first thought when I read the report was that someone knew about bank transactions and the only way Hamas could get money from their Syrian and Saudi enablers was via cold cash.

Thus when I heard about the Richard Clarke, an idiot I do not like let the record show, I felt vindicated.

If an average housewife type figured it out I would think Saudi and their ilk knew about it.

Now I don't know, exactly, what's my point. I thought the NY Times printing that information was perfectly wrong. But I've lost any smidgeon of respect for the NY Times long ago and was only too happy to watch them get their hineys beat all over the place.

Still, the terrorists and their financiers knew about the program and hey, Clarke was right. And, frankly, I'm a little perplexed why all the commotion. Though, I must state again, I'll join in on any NY Times bashing with a smile on my face.

Any thoughts, opinions, analyses on why the revelation of the program was so bad given that its existance was already known?

Dear Lord I saw that and had the exact same reaction as you.

Although, ahem, I admit to not knowing just exactly what the Pentagon papers were all about given the era was one controlled by blatant liars in terms of public information.

But I picked up right away the implication of having Ellsberg and hey, I was NOT fooled. Not even close to the same thing.

For a while there I thought Mitchell was attempting some sort of fair and balanced thing. She did ask Chuckie Schumer, "with all due respect", if he didn't think the opposition party had an obligation to offer an alternative beyond carping and complaining.

But the Lamestream always has to get in the last dig and that's exactly what the Ellsberg segment was.

Agreed about the Ellsberg clip...but noted that Bill Bennet was one step ahead with the closing comment of the roundtable which immediately preceded the Ellsberg segment.

Bennet implored everyone to read Thurgood Marshall's dissenting opinion in that case , where he said basically; we can't stop you from reporting, but if people die as a result, the press is responsible.

His comment, imho, put the proper perspective to Ellsberg.

Bill Bennett was excellent on MTP. Andrea Mitchell kept trying to limit Bennett in presenting his arguments, but Bennett managed to get some time to speak. Mitchell is an idiot and refused to let Bennett finish when he was making his points. I saw Bennett was visibly annoyed with Mitchell. I don't think Mr. Bennett is friends with Mrs. Greenspan.
