An Air Force installation in Colorado Springs and one near Denver are operating with heightened security.
The Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, which houses NORAD, is now at "Bravo-Plus".
There are five levels of alert: normal, Alpha (low), Bravo (medium), Charlie (high) and Delta (critical). Bravo-Plus is slightly higher than a medium threat level.
Space Command would not comment on the reason for the security increase.
The order also affects Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and Patrick air force base in Florida.
"What's the latest news with North Korea? Is their test missile still ready to go?"
- If little Kim is holding back on launching his big swinging Dong, it's only because of Chinese pressure. I think the US and Japan passed a quiet word to the Chinese to reign in their starving protege or there could be trade repercussions.
Vandenberg is an alternative landing site for the shuttle....if it is incapacitated.
The "loose lips" policy should be reminded to all.
Quote
"Why should there be a concern for "loose lips" when this was apparently released publicly?"
Prob because it should be reminded in many threads. There are a lot of new people out and about the forum.
When is the other?
Well, I dunno about that. To my way of thinking...any branch of the military which states Peace is our Profession has got to have some.....ummmm..... issues! When I was an army officer, we'd hear that and snicker....Peace may be your profession....but ours is WAR.
WAR is actually an acronym:
We
Are
Ready.
DANG. You beat me to this...nice graphic, too.
Okay: Patrick AFB is the home of the eastern testing range for missiles and is where NASA conducts prefight tests on it's "products." Vandenburg is a military launch base where they send military satellites into orbit. Bigger stuff than a suborbital ICBM. NORAD of course tracks everything in the skies, including Santa's annual flight.
When my dad's company was contracted to NASA in the 1960's I just about grew up on the eastern testing range. I'll bet I was the only five year old kid to have a top secret security clearance photo ID allowing me to go anyplace with my dad. I still have that pass. THat's how I know about Patrick AFB and that is the sum total of my USAF knowledge. Can anybody connect the dots from here?
Great. Now we all die.
This almost makes me wish I were married. I could promise to do anything on the 5th of July. Since we'll all be orbiting cosmic debris. 8>)

LOL. Post of the Fourth of July Weekend!
10/12/2000: USS Cole; 10/12/2002: Bali bombing. If one goes back, there are dates which seem to coincide (first WTC bombing, first Gulf War), 9/11/01 Attack on USA; 9/11/1948 Death of Muhammed Jinnah (Founder of Pakistan). There are important dates coming up: July 3, 1988 USS Vincennes accidently shoots down Iranian plane. July 4th; 7/7/2005 London bombings. There may be nothing to most of them, but it doesn't hurt to know what anniversaries are approaching.
July 17: Ba'athist Revolution Day in Iraq.
July 17, 1996: TWA 800 crashes, killing 230 passengers.
June 25, 1993: U.S. launches cruise missile strikes against Iraqi intelligence for the attempted assassination of President George H.W. Bush in Kuwait City.
June 25, 1999: Truck-bomb explodes outside the Khobar Towers on Dhahran Air Force Base, Saudi Arabia killing 19 USAF military personnel and wounding 515 persons, including 240 U.S. personnel. Khobar Towers was home to the 4404th Wing, protectors of the "no fly zone" in Southern Iraq in support of Operation Southern Watch
August 7, 1990: Operation Desert Shield begins (beginning of Gulf War I).
August 7, 1998: Two car bombs explode at the U.S. Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing 224 people and wounding more than 5,000.
September 11, 1990: President George H.W. Bush addresses a joint session of the U.S. Congress on the looming Gulf War ("This is not, as Saddam Hussein would have it, the United States against Iraq. It is Iraq against the world")
September 11, 2001: Suicide hijackings kill 3000 in NY, Washington and PA.
Keep an eye on the NYT. If its classified, they will print it.
Thank you for that list. Anniversaries are important. They may not be 100% predictive in the future, but it doesn't hurt to notice when they are coming up.
And help prioritize, too! Let's see, should I duct tape the window frames first or collect all the 1911 and AR mags and start loading.
>Patrick air force base in Florida.
???
Nothing much there. An Air-Sea Rescue unit, some support for the Cape, not much.
I heard that the meteor might hit North Korea! ...more beer.

I think we have a winner.
