There is a theory that they positioned themselves to establish a new world order (run by enviros, natch) based on planet survival.

It was somebody else. There was a thread that had a link to a (gov't?) database of various data sets of long term temperature inferences, I'll see if I can find it.

I liked what Bush said he wants to do about 'global warming':
1. Start building nuclear power plants again
2. Exploit our own resources here, rather than importing
3. Encourage research into alternative forms of energy.

Agreed. President Bush is on the right track. He has always called for cutting the cumbersome redtape of environmental mumbo jumbo to allow for the construction of new refineries here in the U.S.

Most of our "flooding" is directly related to how we "develop" land. Most developers strive to build so their runoff is directed towards someone else's development.

yes - the world is "warmer than it has been in 400 years!" Is it any wonder since about 250 of the 400 years referenced happened during to a period of time called the "Little Ice Age".
At the start of the 400 year period glaciers were destroying alpine farms and advancing on villages.

It "represented a unanimous decision that global warming is real, is getting worse, and is due to man," said CNN reporter Michelle Mitchell. "There is no wiggle room." It must be true! La Michele (one "l") has pronounced it so!
To: Mike Darancette
the "Little Ice Age". At the start of the 400 year period glaciers were destroying alpine farms and advancing on villages. Exactly - and 1000 years ago, the Vikings had much warmer weather in their Greenland settlement (of over 30,000 people) for over 350 years until the Little Ice Age descended upon them.
So we would actually have to warm up quite a bit to get back to the level of 1000 years ago.
Or maybe we can get a mega-grant to study just what those Vikings were doing that "created" such a warm period???

Doug, your point is well taken.
However, I must add that any signal of Global Warming I receive, I must check most carefully.
As an example, Three years ago here in Bullhead City it was 117 degrees at high noon.
I just checked; and the temperature NOW is just 110.
Accordingly, by my highly credible scientific computations, at least in Arizona, we are in a significant cooling pattern -- further refuting Crazy Al's thesis. *S*
As an aside, I am still really miffed that the bum (Gore) resided in the quarters at the Observatory used by my old boss. Thank God, the Chaneys restored the dignity to the magnificent home that it warrants.
I despise Gore with such a passion my jaw works -- and saliva forms -- just thinking of the hypocritical cretin.

Hi, dk. Yep, Algore is one slimy character. I was so proud of the DC FReepers who drove him nuts in 2000 chanting GET OUT OF CHENEY'S HOUSE! Gore has said that it bothered he and his family at dinner. When the Supreme Court made their ruling that prevented him from stealing an election, I heard the news in my car. Gore actually said to a reporter that he was having a Christmas party and, for the people who couldn't remember exactly where he lived, just go down to the end of the block where they are chanting GET OUT OF CHENEY'S HOUSE. Too funny.

Here's part of the data base: ftp://ftp.ngdc.noaa.gov/paleo/contributions_by_author/mann1998 Any links to the unadjusted data? The MANN data has their supposed "Historical Mean" used to adjust the data to produce the "Hockey Stick".
