Crocs Shoes Making Great Strides

The bulky clog with a strap along the heel and holes across the top and around the toes is winning consumers over with its versatility and comfort. Food service and factory workers, hair stylists and hospital personnel buy them for comfort. Boaters and swimmers buy them for function. And some just think they're fun.

Crocs, which got its name because the shoes are water-friendly and tough, now lends its cartoon crocodile logo to more than a dozen styles. There are flip flops, slides, a calf-high boot, a hiking shoe and a Mary Jane that's set to hit stores this fall. They come in 20 colors — from chocolate and sea blue to lime and fuchsia — prices range from about $30 to $60.
Tim Kaiser, store manager at the Tradehome Shoe Store in Bismarck, N.D., said he sells to many nurses who say Crocs are more comfortable than $100 walking shoes and easy to sanitize.

Crocs Inc., based in Niwot, Colo., reported $24,000 in revenues and sold 1,500 pairs of clogs in 2002, its first year. Last year, the company sold 6 million pairs of shoes and total revenues, including shoes, accessories and clothing, hit $108.6 million

In May, Crocs said it expected sales for 2006 to reach $200 million to $205 million.
Crocs went public on the Nasdaq Stock Market in February at $21 per share; the stock rose 1.8 percent June 28 to close at $23.69.
"There's no doubt that they are very, very hot right now," said Michael Wood, vice president of the marketing firm Teenage Research Unlimited. "The key to it is they're comfortable, they're practical and they're fun ... and they're also affordable so you can buy into the trend without making a big investment."

Just ordered the Athens online. They look wonderful and I love comfortable shoes. These look funky enough to fit the bill.
I own two pair...love em....
I love shoes I can slip in and out of, too - more than anything. Problem is the slipping *out* of them when I don't want to. I'm looking at the strappy ones - lol, "strappy" - since it looks like the strap hinges up or down. I like that idea a lot.
Still haven't tried any on - but I'm certainly leaning that way now, after so many FReepers' raves. Maybe with the holes they aren't as hot as jellies were - that's what I think of as plastic shoes.
The Crocs remind me of space age orthopedic shoes for Baby Boomers :) And yes, they're not only UGLY...but FUNKY too!

How 'bout these? I think they're studly....
I just went to the site and they have a lot of new things. One of 'em is an adjustable strap for the back, (for $6, and it retrofits to your existing shoes) which is something I'm very interest in. I walk very fast...and a snugger strap would be perfect!
Mr. HR has those. LOVES 'em.
I got some red Birki Clogs for that.
After much urging from my wife and daughter, I agreed to buy myself a pair of crocks. They're great to leave by the door for a quick trip outside. (We leave all our shoes at the door.)
WAYYY too heavy! Crocs only weigh 6 oz. each!
Me, too. However, I have one "indoor" pair. I work from home and I like to type standing up for a couple of hours after being on my can all day, and they are GREAT support. A little too sweaty indoors in the warm weather...but with socks when it's cool...oh, my!

You *can* flip the strap down around the heel part, can't you? It looks like you can. Has that velcro adjustable part.
How "Ivy League" to put the belt in the back, lol. OK, ok, I'll test-walk some of these fuglies sometime soon.
I have a pink pair..and they are warm and cozy. I wish I could wear them all year.Move to the west side of L.A., and you can. (Brrr.)
The Crocs remind me of space age orthopedic shoes for Baby Boomers :) And yes, they're not only UGLY...but FUNKY too!They're so ugly they're distracting. I've never seen them complement an outfit. They're just... them.
They're not quite as comfy, but for REALLY hot weather or extended wear, the flip-flops aren't anything to sniff at. In fact, I first tried on the flip flops and found them so much more comfy than other flip flops, that I tried on the actual original crocs and just about made a "When Harry Met Sally" type scene right there in the store! LOL!
Or a pair of Wesco Boots for that matter...

My wife bought a pair a few months ago, and liked them so much she bought another pair.
"My feet are killin' me!" sounds funny- unless it's your feet doing it-- mine have several improperly-set old broken bones, arthritis, and so forth, and were getting so bad I was having trouble walking-- so I tried a pair, and the difference is amazing.
And you can sprint in them just fine.
But you can't run through airports!
