MSNBC Replaces 'Rita Cosby'
TV Week ^ | 6/29/06 | Michele Greppi

Posted on 06/29/2006 7:45:44 PM PDT by LdSentinal

Rita Cosby is losing her year-old MSNBC show and will get her own specials unit for the cable channel effective July 10.

The shuffle, which MSNBC announced Thursday, is the first big move of Dan Abrams' three-week tenure as MSNBC's general manager.

"Rita Cosby: Live and Direct," which has been telecast at 10 p.m. (ET) weeknights and repeated at 1 a.m. (ET) since late spring, will be replaced by taped documentary programming, under the familiar label of "MSNBC Investigates." Ms. Cosby will serve as the primary anchor of "Investigates," which has been led by various rotating anchors over years. "Investigates" also will run at 11 p.m.

Joe Scarborough's "Scarborough Country" will remain at 9 p.m. weeknights.

"The Situation With Tucker Carlson" will move into the 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. timeslots that have been the home of "The Abrams Report," the legal-issues and crime show that Mr. Abrams hosted prior to his promotion.

Ms. Cosby left Fox News Channel last year to host her weeknight show. In June, "Rita Cosby" averaged 233,000 viewers, 93,000 of them in the core news demo of 25 to 54, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. That's down from her first month on the air, August 2005, when she averaged 398,000 viewers, 146,000 of them in the demo.

In addition to being down since last year, "Rita Cosby" has been losing lead-in from "Scarborough Country," which averaged 319,000 viewers, 109,000 of them in the demo, in June

Maybe she decided motherhood needed her full attention.

No, Fox didn't want her back. She didn't draw ratings.

Who thinks this chick has any talent? I'd rather watch Bea Arthur in a thong than this idiot.

"...so I can look at those soul less eyes...of his."

He's got fish eyes. And his skin is opaque. He's like a dead whitefish coming in on an oil slick. Slimy and scaly.

I recomended this action to FOX when they had her. They wisely followed my advice...apparently?

I wrote MSNBC an e-mail after seeing her there and gave them the same advice. They weren't as quick to catch on as FOX, but finally they saw the wisdom in my opinion.

How she could presume to entertain or inform anyone is beyond me.

Simply stated - I cannot abide that fat, smarmy, lo-life trailer trash.. And generally I'm a very tolerant guy!!

well, most of the time

Kind of an interesting situation. As I recall, it was Dan who was standing alongside her in 2000 when the Bush v. Gore decision came down and Rita announced that Al Gore was our new President. I think Dan was the one who actually read the decision, THEN reported on it.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my question.

I can't believe it .. someone is actually being nice to me...

When I dish it out like I do, I must expect to take it.

But Thanks so much for your very kind words. They are much appreciated.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my question.

I never watch him. I just read what the new management was doing at MSNBC in the trades. It was a story about what they were doing with the time while Imus was on vacation.

It stuck in my brain because it was the move of an executive with no programming experience. It was a dumb mistake by an executive that did not know enough to know it was a dumb move.

both Olberman and Mathews's shows are going to be MSNBC's leaders.

Have you seen their ratings? The test pattern on local UHF station 78 gets more viewers. Sheesh. They could
double their viewers if they could talk their Moms into watching.

No. Abrams has announced that MSNBC is pleased with an alleged recent ratings bounce that Olberman has had and that both Olberman and Mathews's shows are going to be MSNBC's leaders.

They can only be leaders if they have followers.

"Rita is he ditz who was reading the SCOTUS decision in the 2000 election and was elated to announce algore won......only to discover she was wrong. She showed her true colors then."

Oh my, I did not know this. In that case, buh bye Rita, don't let the door hit you on your way out.

I don't know any of these people you all are talking about on MSNBC.

My cable provider offers 182 channels. MSNBC is not one of them.

I think I did watch about one hour of it in a motel room once. That should do me for the rest of my life.

I say give Pat Buchanan his own show.

Think of all the new threads that would be posted here. It would certainly energize the Hate-Pat-the Nazi crowd!!!

"I chuckle every time I see Rita. Why? Because of how she blew reporting the SCOTUS decision regarding Gore v Bush in 2000. Poor thing was breathless, thinking that Algore had won. (She probably wet her pants when she found out how wrong her reporting was)"

I will NEVER forget that moment - nor the fact that it caused me a sleepless, miserable night before I found out the facts weren't quite as she had reported them.

Now, if we're lucky MSNBC can hire away Tabloid Greta, and Fox News Channel can begin the long road back to actually reporting news...
