(IsraelNN.com) United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice joined the G8 industrialized nations group in calling for restraint by IDF forces that entered Gaza to rescue a soldier who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on Sunday.
Rice added that diplomatic officials continue to work toward obtaining the release of 19-year-old Corporal Gilad Shalit, who was taken hostage during the raid on an IDF outpost near the Kerem Shalom border crossing. Two soldiers were killed and four others wounded in the attack.
Shalits whereabouts are unknown and his captors refuse to return him.
How come they never tell Hamas or Islamic Jihad or Al Qaeda to "show restraint"
This has been going on for a couple of days and I have yet to hear a report of a single Arab death. Just some arrests have property damage.
Still the Saudi lackey wants Israel to show restraint.
arrest and..
Restraint?.....Okay, we won't use nukes...........
Correction: The Wahabi Lobby's hand puppet Condi sez, "Israel, show restraint."
Why can't Condi "show restraint" and butt out for once as Israel responds to numerous attacks, murders, and kidnappings carried out by terrorists? Did Israel ask for her opinion or advice?
Memo to Condi - mind your own business!
I doubt that the US administration feels anything sympathy toward the Palestinians terrorists or Hamas militants. Rice words should be taken in a larger context.
She is not up to the job she has.
My advise to Condi is "take notes." Israel has the gonads to defend itself from terrorists and is capable of taking care of business. We just had two soldiers slaughtered in an inconceivable brutal way and what did we do about it? Unless I've missed something, the answer is nothing.
Of course it's the president. Secretaries don't set US policy, they serve at the pleasure of the president. When Condi speaks she speaks for the president.
Lets suppose that you are right, and I do not believe you are, that it is all for show.
I submit that it is such weasel words that has perpetuated this conflict.
Once there was the issue of the Soviet Union coming to the side of the Arabs and therefore the US had to thread gently.
But today, what would occur if the US made it openly clear to the International community that Israel has our blessing to do whatever it must do to fight this scourge? What would occur if the Arabs understood that all hell could break lose on them, without the International community coming to their rescue, if they piss off Israel to the breaking point.
I submit, it may take some time, but the conflict would slowly resolve itself- one way or another.
Exactly. Anyone who thinks an administration official at this level is giving their *own* opinion and not speaking for the administration itself is extremely naive about how these things work.
I'm simply baffled that so many here haven't learned that by now.
In addition to these statements being weasel words, they also represent a blatant and disgusting double standard. We and others are allowed to chase down terrorists and go to war, but Israel isn't? Why not, Condi?
Excellent post.
What is fair in the conflict?
How do you mediate between good and evil?
Here in particular. Israel destroyed Jewish homes, businesses, lives, and removed their graves and left Gaza.
The Arabs attacked.
What's fair?
You're right
or Withdraw! Withdraw! That's what I'm waiting to hear next. I expect it before the day is over. Or tomorrow at the latest.
I agree. The words that come out of her mouth (via the President, I am sure) continue to peeve me off.
They need to ALL stop sucking up to Muslims and terrorists and decide if we really are at war against them, or not. And, I could give a dam about those "poor" Palestinians that democratically voted Hamas in. Let em all starve.
I agree..I'm sure she's saying that for public consumption.People are naive if they think the govt. says everything it means in public .They always try to be diplomatic in public view . What they say behind closed doors is a different story many many times.
