(IsraelNN.com) United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice joined the G8 industrialized nations group in calling for restraint by IDF forces that entered Gaza to rescue a soldier who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on Sunday.
Rice added that diplomatic officials continue to work toward obtaining the release of 19-year-old Corporal Gilad Shalit, who was taken hostage during the raid on an IDF outpost near the Kerem Shalom border crossing. Two soldiers were killed and four others wounded in the attack.
Shalits whereabouts are unknown and his captors refuse to return him.

I wish for once our State Department would say to Israel: "Do what you have to do -- we've got your back."

I wonder what Bush's reply would have been if Israel had told us to "show restraint" after 9/11?

Maybe Rice means something like: instead of shooting a terrorist 20 times, show a little restraint and only shoot them 17 times.
To: Nachum
It is extremely easy to show restraint, and does not cost anything: one could be spreading salt on those flayed alive, but a properly restrained person would abstain from doing so [not to be taken too literally, but as an example]. Any action is always restrained, because without that restraint one could be doing much more [or much worse]. It is all a matter of presentation.

Though I like Condi, they'll probably, in so many words, tell her to stuff it, as they should.

Israel to Condi: "YOU show restraint if you enjoy that sort of thing; WE kick butt and take names."
To: guitar4jesus
The restraint is:
Do not use nukes.
But that still leaves a lot of latitude for the Israelis.
Well, maybe not putting heads on pikes.
To: Nachum
Rice, I usually agree with you, but would you please mind you're own business. Stay out of Israel's. They are doing what they have to, to survive in this world. Get it!!!!!!

Now that the teen was murdered by the Palis, Israel should go ahead and just wipe out the Palis out, no restraint.
Rice, honey, I love ya, but you got your priorties mixed up. Israel has the full right to do what needs to be done and they will do it, regardless of the U.S.'s approval or not.
Go Israel..blow the MFS out of them!

The Israelis are showing tremendous restraint by not summarily killing the 80+ Hamas politicians (as was done to the 18 yo hitchhiker).
