Dean: 'We're About to Enter the '60s Again'
CNSNews.com ^ | June 28, 2006 | Randy Hall

America is about to revisit one of the most turbulent decades in its history, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told a religious conference in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. "We're about to enter the '60s again," Dean said, but he was not referring to the Vietnam War or racial tensions.

Dean said he is looking for "the age of enlightenment led by religious figures who want to greet Americans with a moral, uplifting vision."

"The problem is when we hit that '60s spot again, which I am optimistic we're about to hit, we have to make sure that we don't make the same mistakes," Dean added. See Video

It's the SAME radicals, including John Kerry and Ramsey Clark, who divided this country over Vietnam.

That's all they've got.

The Democrats are trying to bring on another Vietnam War experience because they are willing to tear the country apart to get power back.

Well said.

A conservative newspaper editor (yes, there are some) told me liberals try to shoehorn the square pegs of current events into three round holes - the Civil Rights movement, Vietname and Watergate (he agreed that there is now a fourth, Florida in the 2000 elections). And that is exactly what we are seeing here from Dean.

His cure for this? Death. The older libs are incurable - they will hold these views until they die.

Well the religious got MORE religious in the 1960s. Remember the Jesus Freaks? People who would openly witness to others?

Somehow I don't think that is what Howie Dean wants to see.

"Give us your money and keep your religious faith to yourself."

I'm looking for positive things that Freepers can do to guarantee that Howard Dean stays on the job. He is the Energizer Bunny of politics, the gift that keeps on giving and giving and giving.

The baby boomer generation is older...

Free sex pills, shedding hair, heart drugs, and hybrids.

As they rally behind the Vichy Chicks backyard concert tour.

"Age of enlightenment"?

&&&
Hey, don't be so harsh. The Age of Aquarius ushered in the Left's big -- and too successful -- push to destroy the family and, thus, morality. So they are looking forward to continuing in their progress. You and I are too unenlightened to appreciate the great liberation that they have given us.

"It's the establishment's fault, man. They want to keep us down, and like, keep their foot on our necks, dude. For real."

Ya man, that's like, really 'heavy' man.

Abbie Hoffman killed himself over the fact that sex would never be as free, drugs would never be as plentiful, and basically his audience had dwindled. (I know he stated the first two, not sure what his third point was in the year before he offed himself).

Hey, the 5th Dimension was 1 of the few consistently good things from that era. Even a woman who could *actually* sing!

(I even like that song alot - can't help thinking it was just a nod to the contemporary culture, given their other hits. But maybe I'm just naive? ;-) )

What a miserable generation of Americans.

Don't tar all of us with that same brush. Quite a few Freepers are Boomers, good Boomers.

There are still socialists in America who shed a tear for Stalin.

Purple haze all in Dean's brain
Lately he don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
'Scuse Dean while he kissed the sky

Purple haze all around
Don't know if Dean's comin' up or down
Is he happy or in misery?
Whatever it is that drug put a spell on Dean

Purple haze all in Dean's eyes
Don't know if it's day or night
He's got Dem's blowin', blowin' their mind
Is it tomorrow, or still the 60's time?

..'We're About to Enter the '60s Again'

Not yet. First we have to finish the 30's, and then do the 40's and 50's.

The only good thing about the 60's were the fashions.

But what was up with the furniture styles and architecture and art in the 60's? They were friggin' hideous. Have you seen the JFK memorial in Dallas? Hard to believe Jackie is responsible for hiring the architect and approving that thing. Thought she had exquisite taste. Good taste was MIA in the 60's. Except for the clothes, i guess.

Just visited Elvis' Graceland recently. Oooh. Tack-Kay.

If they think that they'll be able to get by with violent civil disobedience again, as they did in the 60's, they've got another thought coming.

I'm actually worried about this. Remember -- we don't get in the streets and in peoples faces like the leftists are wont to do. We have the guns and the numbers but we don't know how to use them, except at the ballot box. When people predict turmoil for this country, I just remember what it was like in 1968 with the assassinations, the black panthers, the SDS, the weathermen, the red brigades, the SLA, and who can forget the diabolical old PLO. Oh yeah, and Charlie Manson. And the Hells Angels.

Let the 60s stay in history. We don't need to go back there. Not one bit.

Yeah - you're right. That was ONE consistently good thing about the '60s (but then, I love all old cars).

But, the very last of the '60s, many of them got too big-looking (bulky and too long drawn-out). I love big cars but the proportions of some of the "small" muscle cars of '69 in particular - Mustangs, Chevelles, Chargers, etc, got a bit wacky from their mid-'60s origins, which were just right. IMO, of course.

Dean is absolutely not understanding the 60's or our current time.

The street demonstrations of the late 60's were made possible by a powerful media which controlled the news, and the fear of the draft. Period.

We do not have a draft, and the MSM is much reduced in influence.

I speak as one who came of age in the 60's, and looking back on those years I realized how much I had been manipulated by the press and television, all the while thinking I was "informed." Until about 10 years ago I thought we LOST the Tet Offensive!

I distinctly remember cover stories from Time and Newsweek glorifying anti-war demonstrators, hippies, and the counter-culture. Remember how they tried to make Meathead the hero of "All in the Family?" "MASH" pushed the anti-war message every week.

It just isn't going to happen again. All of Howard's wishing won't make it so.
