Feminists at 'The View' Fire Star Jones . . . for Failing to Be Fat

As a veteran Couric watcher, I've recently come to follow [without actually watching] doings at The View, since Katie's replacement Meredith Vieira was for years a member of the show's cast. For those unfamiliar with it, The View is an all-female televised coffee klatsch and gabfest of which Barbara Walters is the creator, partial owner and a co-host.

The View has a distinct liberal tint to its patter. And as we know, one of the tenets of feminist theology is that women have a right to whatever kind of body size they want, free of societal restraints.

How ironic - some might say hypocritical - that one reason for the recent firing of co-host Star Jones is that . . . she refused to stay fat! As you'll note from the before and after pics here, Star has undergone a dramatic physical transformation. According to this AP article:

"Walters said ABC network chiefs had decided last fall not to renew Reynolds' contract because its research showed that Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and 2004 wedding to banker Al Reynolds had turned viewers off."

My personal view is that employers, subject to their contractual agreements, should be able to hire and fire as per their own standards. Long live Hooters. But isn't this a case of The View not practicing what it preaches? Why, were the tables turned, some might even accuse a conservative show that fired Jones under similar circumstances of racism, of trying to keep Star down on the 'fat farm.'

"Yes, "societal restraints" was an unfortunate phrase. What those feminists really want is for their physical appearances to play no role whatsoever in their attractiveness to men...and that is a futile attempt to repeal a law of biology."

And they're failing abysmally. Note the hyperfocus among women on beauty, plastic surgery and weight loss these days. Star Jones just reflects the trend. The feminist attack on traditional womanhood is failing too -- note the divorce rate, the unwilligness of many guys to marry and the efforts more women are making to rebalance work and family and come off as more traditional women.

And they're moving Rosie O'Donnell into the "Fat" Seat.

I'd pay to see Rosie and RoseAnn mud wrestle nekkid as j-birds.

Have never watched this show, and never will - my gag reflex is too sensitive. Mark, thank you for monitoring this for us.

The toxic Rosie hasn't even shown up yet and has already infected "The View" with her necrotizing venom by insulting Star Jones Whatever-her-name is.

This is the only thing the odious Rosie is good at - she ruins everything she touches - look at her failed ventures: that ridiculous musical with Boy George, she ruined her own, once-successful talk show. One thing that really sticks in my craw was her destruction of a one-time icon of women's magazines: McCall's.

The ultimate was when she was being referred to as the "Queen of Nice". Ptui! This was AFTER she publicly declared, during the 1996 presidential election, "Bob Dole sucks". I wrote a letter to Family Circle magazine who had done a fawning article about her regarding her disgusting comments, needless to say, they didn't print it. I give "The View" six months once Rosie plops her poisonous, fat butt down on the set.

That's not my read. She was disengenous in having the audience (and readers of her book) believe her weight loss was due to exercise and diet, not the result of a surgeon's hand. Her wedding freebies and demands is what turned people off. Don't watch the show but this OJ apologist got what she deserved.

Rosie can't wear the haircut of her choice? Where's the ACLU, NOW crowd, and GLAD speaking on her behalf??? Any other time they would be screaming and yelling about violating your civil rights. I guess when it comes to Hollyweird, that's off limits.

What are the demographics of the viewers of "The View?" The show is not entertaining, funny or informative...so who watches, and the bigger question is WHY?

I was basing that remark on the quote from the AP article:

"Walters said ABC network chiefs had decided last fall not to renew Reynolds' contract because its research showed that Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and 2004 wedding to banker Al Reynolds had turned viewers off."

I realized that and believe as time passes the truth may be told and it's in large part due to her promoting companies who donated to her wedding.

BTW, take a look at Drudge and you'll see the knives are being sharpened by ABC and she is no longer welcomed on the show. Unfortunately she's landed a gig on HGTV's "House Hunters" which is show I used to enjoy. Sigh.

Thanks, SF. Don't think it compares to Lars' bass baritone, but glad you like it.

Ok, I just figured what's going on with the MSM; they want to turn the clock back to the Dark Ages where they are the center of the Universe.

These people give new meaning to "vanity".

The fact is, the network, whichever one it is, knows that Butchiness turns off viewers. What they don't know is that it will take a lot more than a good haircut to tone down the Butchiness of that dike. And for the record, women get their hair "done", but Butchy gets a haircut.

"She made a name for herself by appearing on Court TV during the OJ trial. "

I was a Court TV junkie long before the OJ trial. It was during OJ that she went from being a fairly down to earth commentating lawyer to a pseudo celeb. As her celebrity grew the more I turned her off. I gave The View a try..that didn't last long. lol

IMHO, Rosie would look rather dashing with a mullet.
