A poll published over the weekend by the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, found Cannon ahead — 46-33 percent among registered voters in the 3rd District. But 18 percent of voters remained undecided. "That's one of the highest 'undecideds' numbers I've seen so close to a primary election," said Jones, who has polled in Utah for more than 30 years. Jacob backtracks on his "Satan" comments: "What the [Salt Lake Tribune] reported and what I said weren't the same thing. It wasn't that [the devil] was trying to keep me out of Washington. I was just saying when you're trying to get into politics, there's a lot of adversity. … Contrary to reports of saying it was keeping me from being there, it was going to help me in training when I get there. That's the kind of serious thinker we want in Congress.
Let's think about this, shall we? John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt is a challenger running an uphill campaign supported by Bay Leaf Buchanan and company. Like most primary challengers, he is focusing on one issue. And he is not even coherent on that one issue! How hard is this? It's not like he fumbled a question on having bases in Okinawa. This is the only issue on which he was to be well-prepared. That's it. Nothing else. And he couldn't even get that right. Clowns like this do not belong in the Congress.

And last week, a local paper published an editorial cartoon titled "Primary Colors" that portrayed Cannon as black-and-blue with bruises and a puffy eye. He was holding a paper with the words "Immigration stance," and the paper was riddled with holes.
So Cannon had to laugh when Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., proposed a new plan for comprehensive immigration reform just a few weeks ago only to be attacked by people on all sides of the issue.
"He came to me and said, 'Chris, how have you suffered these slings and arrows for the past two years?' " Cannon recalled.

That is true to a certain degree. Of course I take a big interest in this debate. Especially with the some of the groups that are associating and funding this anti illegal campaign. If those groups were repudiated by the anti illegal camp I would feel somewhat better.
But it was the smart move.
Funny that you completely ignore Cannon's massive contributions from pro-amnesty groups or that he demonizes conservatives with his socialist pal Louis Gutierrez sitting next to him. Go ahead and support Cannon, I'll take the pro-American John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt anyday.

The same can be same for Cannon and the money he has recieved from La Raza
and La Raza type groups. You do know La Zraza is a racist group. But of course we could debate that forever.

The fact that Chris Cannon has been pushing for Amnesty for Illegal Aliens for the past 8 years is bad enough. It's even worse that he is now lying to Utah Voters about it.
Just a couple months ago Cannon was telling delegates that he opposes sanctions against companies who knowingly employ Illegal Aliens, not he is saying he supports sanctions. He is also now trying to tell us he opposes Amnesty, and is tough on Illegal Immigration.
It's one thing to ignore your constituents on an issue (instead catering to special interest groups), it's another to lie about your positions & voting history while trying to get re-elected.
Whether you like Cannon or you don't, we all should be offended by this. Cannon has become a conniving politician in every sense of the term.
When the polls close tonight I hope Mr. Cannon is sitting down becouse he may not like the outcome?

I was for Chris Cannon until I started reading. He says he is strong on immigration but his voting record shows otherwise. He is for amnesty. He is for illegal students having in-state tuition. He will not be straight on any issue. We do not want or need anyone of his ilk in Washington.
James is right. District 3 voters, use the power of your vote to smack the chimp by voting Cannon out of office. We can clean up the mess created by electing Jacob in the next round of elections in 2008
