A conscientious newspaper editor should never enter a popularity contest, and must keep in mind that a lot of people would string him up to the nearest hanging tree if they thought they could get by with it. It goes with the territory.

... and the people are more liable to string them up if some family members are killed because the editor's decision to print intelligence info prevented the authorities from stopping a terrorist.
"A public hanging might be overkill"
I'm ok with a private hanging.
Come on, Wes, we're not asking for the moon here. One little hanging, that's all. Well, a couple. I'd even negotiate on the "public" part. Puh-LEEZE?
The Washington Times is a fairly conservative paper, but even so they come to the immediate defense of any liberal rag that takes criticism. Journalists stick together like Doctors who wont testiy that a bad Doctor killed someone.
Certainly they are trying to protect that license the Constitution gave them to report practically anything in the name of free speech.
However the New York Times has crossed the line.IMO.
A public hanging.? Hardly.

Nope. Sounds right to me.

Melanie Morgan says Keller should get 20 years. I say she's gone soft.
Private hangings. Public floggings.
I just don't see how a person's right to sell a newspaper, trumps another's right to live.
OK, so how about a public lethal injection?
Bah! A public hanging is just about right. Maybe a little underdone.
I really don't see how. I frankly think it should be nothing more than a routine bureaucratic process in a case like this.
Arrest.
Try.
Convict.
Execute.
Since The Treason Times could care less about American lives, why should we care about theirs? Keller needs to be introduced to a Tall Branch a Short Rope and a Skitish Horse.
