Rush Limbaugh Under New Investigation

Rush Limbaugh Under New Investigation Sign In to E-Mail This Print Save By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: June 27, 2006 Filed at 11:45 a.m. ET WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Rush Limbaugh could see a deal with prosecutors in a long-running prescription fraud case collapse after authorities found a bottle of Viagra in his bag at Palm Beach International Airport. The prescription was not in his name. Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at the airport after returning from a vacation in the Dominican Republic. Customs officials found the Viagra in his luggage but his name was not on the prescription, said Paul Miller, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Miller said the alleged violation could be a second-degree misdemeanor. The sheriff's office was investigating and will soon turn the case over to the state attorney's office, which had no immediate comment Tuesday. Under the deal reached last month with prosecutors, Limbaugh was not to be arrested for any infraction for 18 months in exchange for authorities deferring a charge of ''doctor shopping.'' Prosecutors had alleged the conservative talk-show host illegally deceived multiple physicians to receive overlapping painkiller prescriptions. Limbaugh also must submit to random drug tests and continue treatment for his admitted addiction to painkillers. Limbaugh's doctor had prescribed the Viagra, but it was ''labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes,'' Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement. U.S. Customs and Border Protection examined the 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage after his private plane landed at the airport, Miller said. Investigators confiscated the drugs, which treat erectile dysfunction. Limbaugh was released without being charged.

So the laws regulate distribution but not posession or both?

This is the second thread with the same stupid question being asked. Since when was this ever made for "Married Men" only?

[Why is the NY Times reporting about this? I don't see how it directly aids Al Qaeda terrorists.]

Getting rid of someone like Rush would certainly help people like Al Qaeda. The NY Slimes are at it again. I guess they got jealous (or something) after Rush's meeting with Bush last week.

Limbaugh's doctor had prescribed the Viagra, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.

It's a perfectly legitimate explanation. This article is nothing more than excuse to run the whole story about Rush again. The Slimes just doesn't catch on that their smear tactics and what they consider "news" these days is alienating more and more people everyday.

And why does anybody need a prescription for this stuff anyway? It's not an addictive narcotic, and has nowhere near the potential for harm that acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) has...

My understanding is that the compound now called "Viagra" was originally developed to treat high blood pressure but, during testing, the new use was...ahem...discovered.

If it has any significant effect on blood pressure or the heart then it's easy to see why a prescription is needed, even if it's not addictive.

I think the Old Grey Lady is getting ahead of herself. From what I've heard, there is no investigation, he was simply stopped, his bags were checked at customs, and some questions were raised about a prescription found in his luggage.

The NY Times so desperately wants to silence Rush, that they'll jump the gun with a story like this.

The sheriff's office was investigating and will soon turn the case over to the state attorney's office

Shouldn't they be spending their valuable time investigating CHILD RAPISTS & MURDERERS?!!!

I forgot. They aren't concerned about children like Jessica Lunsford whose murderer was walking the streets freely.

John Couey was a REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER, but police had lost track of him weeks earlier, because he was staying with his sister, yards away from Jessica's home. They were probably too busy checking to see if anyone had VIAGRA in their possession!

If he was under a doctors care and the doctor gave him the meds, what's the difference whether [the prescription] was in the doctors name or . . . [it was free] samples of prescription medications [not documented with] a prescription?
Beats me . . .

I make no doubt that if he were doing it again Rush would flush those pills rather than bring them back through customs, tho. 'Cause if he was worried abou privacy, this way sure didn't protect it!

Here we go again!! The NYT and its latest fabrijournalism report. This issue has already been resolved and no investigation is coming. They will do anything to deflect attention from themselves and their treason.

That was a great line from Rush.

I'm glad Rush was able to straighten that out.
