000 WONT41 KNHC 271133 DSAAT SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 730 AM EDT TUE JUN 27 2006
Satellite and radar information indicate that a small low pressure system could be forming about 140 miles south of cape fear North Carolina. This system has the potential to develop into a tropical depression at any time as it moves north to north-northeastward at 15 to 20 mph. an air force reserve reconnaissance aircraft will investigate the system later this morning to determine if a closed circulation exists at the surface.
Residents along the North Carolina coast should closely monitor the progress of this system today as tropical storm warnings could be required with little notice. Even if this system does not form into a tropical cyclone... showers and thunderstorms accompanied by locally heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds will gradually spread onshore the North Carolina coast today and early tonight.
FORECASTER STEWART
A few years back, my wife and I were sitting on the porch on beautiful sunny day, no wind or anything, and a huge liveoak tree, probably a hundred years or older, just keeled over in our neighbor's yard. Roots and all. We had had a long period of rain and I guess the soil was so soggy it could no long hold up the weight.............
What about Amelia Island for the weekend & the 4th?
If there is a LLC, its going to be onshore in about 2 hours anyways.
Surprised NHC has not upgraded it yet...good core of TS winds.
That sure looks like a fairly well developed tropical system. The circulation is obvious.
Did not realize this thread would turn into a weather forecast thread :)
As for your question, this particular disturbance has almost no chance at all of making a u-turn and hitting the NE Florida area.
Not to say something else could not pop up in the meantime. The tropics are becomming quite active.
AGNTSA...................
Yeah, it's about the best it's looked since it formed a few days ago. I think at this rate it will probably just remain a disturbance, as it should be ashore pretty soon. Issuing tropical storm warnings at this point would probably just confuse people. Should be some gusty winds battering the coast soon either way, and then it heads north to give us in the Middle Atlantic some more un-needed rain.
Oh they're talking about 91L......
You see 93L yet?
There's no such thing as a bad day at the beach. Bring plenty of rum.
Stand by for a ram.
I hope not. They spent a lot of time and money to shore that place up before it fell into the Atlantic last time. ;-)
Tell me about it........SHEESH.
Well, we are so close to having the all time monthly record here in DC, I guess we might as well add a little more on top of what we already have. ;-)
I don't see how this system is not a TD/TS... it's the best looking "disturbance" I've seen in some time.
NHC just pulled the special statement....I have a feeling an upgrade is coming.
93L looks pretty frisky.
Even the farmers are griping.......yes, we needed rain - but enough is enough.
A guy we know works at the weather station at Wallops Island. 3 inches of rain in one hour Friday afternoon.
The entire DelMarVa peninsula is awash right now.
