National Hurricane Center ^ | 6/27/2006 | FORECASTER STEWART

000 WONT41 KNHC 271133 DSAAT SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 730 AM EDT TUE JUN 27 2006

Satellite and radar information indicate that a small low pressure system could be forming about 140 miles south of cape fear North Carolina. This system has the potential to develop into a tropical depression at any time as it moves north to north-northeastward at 15 to 20 mph. an air force reserve reconnaissance aircraft will investigate the system later this morning to determine if a closed circulation exists at the surface.

Residents along the North Carolina coast should closely monitor the progress of this system today as tropical storm warnings could be required with little notice. Even if this system does not form into a tropical cyclone... showers and thunderstorms accompanied by locally heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds will gradually spread onshore the North Carolina coast today and early tonight.

This thing dumped 4 to 5 inches from Friday thru Sunday morning here in Central Florida before it began to move north easterly. It spun like a classic tropical depression all weekend long. Glad it came ashore before it strengthened. Hope our friends north of us are as lucky. Doesn't look good though.

I watch the radar fron Mobile (Cox channel 717) constantly for anything looking like rain. Any time it gets close, it just dissappears when it gets to the OK County line.........

That's because it's not hurricane season...yet.

Oh, I know the weather people call June 1st the start of hurricane season, but don't expect any until August 1st at the earliest.

It's comical how our Florida weather people break out the "cones of destuction" everytime clouds form off the west coast of Africa.

The center will be onshore within 2-4 hours, so there isn't much time for development here.

Recon just found FL winds of 55knts....about 44Knts at the surface. Once they find the LLC, this is going to be Beryl (although short-lived).

I thought this thread was going to be about the tropical wave in the Atlantic near South America. That one bears watching, too.

Thanks for the ping.

When I saw the notice I laughed.

My kid flew to NC yesterday to visit friends. The bad weather must have followed him up from Florida.

He's well inland though, so I don't think this will affect them.

Right now the disturbance is moving at a pretty good clip, around 20mph to the North-northeast. If it stays on that track, it should be well north and east by Friday.

Radar looks pretty good, I think there is probably a very small LLC forming.
