I died because I'm poor.
I'm floating in the water. My Mom is accross from me. Mosquitos swarm around us. They're our only friends.
I'm in the United States. Of, America. Not Vietnam. I'm not on T.V. It's really me. I'm dying 'cause I'm poor.
Mama's eyes are fluttering. Like a butterfly. This is real. Please, people. Not a photo op. I'm dying 'cause I'm poor.
I spit on Mama's lips, to give her moisture. Her face turns cold. I'm crying 'cause I'm poor.
Oh, Mama! Dear sweet Mama. I wail into the sky. Where's that promising Bush? Mama didn't have to die.
Now it's my turn. I hear the helicopter, but have no strenth to go out on the porch. I'm dying 'cause I'm poor.
I hear the rotors of the blades. I'm hugging Mama. Get her warm. Oh, Mama, it's come to this. We're dying 'cause we're poor.
I reach out to the men. And suddenly it's black. My life's film has broke. It broke 'cause I'm poor.
It broke 'cause I'm poor. It didn't have to be. We did better in the Tsunami. We did better in the war.
We died 'cause we're poor

I hear dead people.
Damn!
Ok, how about this - whatever stuff is there, I'll take as is, waterstains and all.
I can only assume from your rambling that you have been out in the sun too long. Please seek help.
I've always wanted to beat the socialism out of Daschle, but your link is broken. :(
Did you know that 7 out of 10 suicides are committed right after writing really lame poetry?
Pathetic as hell. Go to a third world country if you think it's so bad here.
That might have been a temporary problem. It's working now, for me at least.
Wow, a poem by a child whose mother had never heard of a thing called "food stamps," a thing called a "homeless shelter" or a thing called a "soup kitchen." What kind of bloody moron are you that you think there are people starving to death out there at all, much less because of Bush's policies?
I almost wish they hadn't zotted you, because I'd LOVE to ask you to show me where an American family (or even a single child) has starved to death because their Mama couldn't buy food.

Wait. I did that wrong.

Oh duh, I get it, it's a poem about Katrina.
Well, I'm still brighter than you, because I know that those people died for two reasons:
Long term reason--decades of welfare atrophying people's ability to care for themselves and also preventing them from having resources of their own. People with cars got out, people in projects didn't.
Short term reason--A mayor from your end of the political spectrum left hundreds of buses sitting in a parking lot and told the people of his city they were on their own. He ignored warnings and his city's evacuation plan and people died. Period, end of story, because if Nagin hadn't abandoned those people there wouldn't have been any refugees for FEMA to reach in the Superdome.
That post made my day. I've been laughing about it ever since reading it at about 6am today.
