I know, I know - another Ann Coulter thread. I wanted to start a fresh thread because of a question. I am two thirds through her latest book, Godless, and I began wondering about something. Why is she being attacked and skewered for her comments on the Jersey Girls? Other than her views on evolution - which, as far as I know, are only commented upon on Free Republic - the mass media does not comment on anything else she has written in the book. She has commented on Howard Dean, Cindy Sheehan, John Edwards, his wife, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, RFK, Jr., et al. In fact, one comment concerning Sheehan - where she says Sheehan is proof some body types should not wear shorts - should be gravy for the media. Why the fascination with the Jersey Girls? Is it because people do not want to question the 9/11 commission - which they wanted - and find out it was a rubber stamp to exonerate the Clintons?
They can't condemn what she says; she's too rational and coherent. So they villainize her by selecting the "questionable" tactics she uses, especially where those criticisms are directed at figures the Left thinks are above reproach. Wrapping their defense in pathos, they feign umbrage over the "bitter, mean-spirited" assault on these pitiful widows, because they think that will resonate with a sympathetic public.
The truth is, the Left couldn't care less about the widows, they couldn't care less about ANY of the victims of 9/11 or terrorism, or the barbarians in Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere else. All those people are just tools to discredit the administration and regain control of our political machinery.
It isn't working.
I thought her comment against Barry Goldwater (same page) was a lot worse.
LOL
We already have the blackmail pictures - the ones in Boca are especially guuuuud. :)
They can't be bothered to actually read the book. They sieze on comments from others without doing any homework on what she actually wrote.
What was the Goldwater comment? I hope is was something along the lines of the comments I have made about him since he showed abundant evidence of extreme senility.
She claimed that his dislike of fundamentalists was evidence of senility. Goldwater never liked fundamentalists, a position on which he stayed consistent until the last breath of his life.
Thanks! I was hoping it had to do with "senility" - regardless of the issue. :)
Because rather than attacking their politics, Ann decided to attack their widowhood.
I have to disagree. This is her highest selling book to date. I do not think that is due to all of her fans. I believe there are some out there a little curious because of the noise from the MSM. I think she will get converts on this one.
Uh, no. Her attack is on their hypocritical MO:
We're 9/11 widows - GWB caused 9/11.
We're 9/11 widows - We support kerry, even made commercials for him.
We're 9/11 widows - The Iraq war is wrong.
Hey, you can't criticize our positions. We're 9/11 widows and you're being mean to us. No fair.
You summed it up very well....
I refuse to buy the books of anyone owning a polka record.
It is a distraction from the meat of her EXCELLENT book. If she hadn't spent a few paragraphs on the harpies, the media would have found something else to use to distract from the content of the book. If you're 2/3rds of the way through the book, you know that the chapter that mentioned the harpies spent most of its time on the whole Valerie Plame/Joe Wilson fraud. It named names, stated who knew what and when, and exposed the whole mess to the light of day. OF COURSE the leftist media doesn't want that getting out, so they have to distract from it as much as possible.
By the way, I'm almost done with the book and so far it is Ann's best book yet. I've never seen anyone so surgically eviscerate the leftist fifth column in this country. She's dissected them and carefully labeled and pinned each rotten organ of the left's corrupt body politic. But Ann is just vicious enough to have performed this gruesome vivisection on a live subject.
Oh please. I have lots of bands albums whose political views are to the left of Stalin.
This attack on Ann over one line in an entire book is a typical leftist tactic. Take one phrase, out of context, and repeat it over and claim it's the main point of the whole book. It was one throwaway line (that should have been thrown away) at the end of a couple of paragraphs exposing the jersey girls for the media whores they are. The left hasn't said anything else about the book, since the vast majority of the book is a documented expose of a wide variety of leftist lies and beliefs.
Yeah, sure. I doubt you would have bought any Ann Coulter book anyway. Welcome to FR.
I am replying to you but it is meant for nearly all who have answered. Very good answers.
Remember when the Democrats, frustrated at never being able to win an argument with Reagan, resorted to the senility claim as their one remaining argument? "The only reason Reagan vetoed our In-Kind Testicle Tax Act is that he's SENILE!".
I'm one of Ann's staunchest defenders in here, but I won't hesitate to call a crappy argument when I see it.
Speaking of crappy arguments...
No, Ann attacked their use as self-appointed human shields for an ideological cause.
