Cannon leading Jacob

Getting supporters to polls may be key to election Copyright 2006 Deseret Morning News

By Bob Bernick Jr. Deseret Morning News Rep. Chris Cannon holds a good lead over fellow Republican John Jacob in the 3rd Congressional District as Tuesday's primary approaches, a new Deseret Morning News/KSL-TV poll shows. But when pollster Dan Jones & Associates breaks out those most interested in the election and hard-core GOP voters, the race tightens consider- ably. Jones polled 617 registered 3rd District voters from Monday to Thursday. Among all the voters, Cannon leads 46 percent to 33 percent. Still, whether Cannon wins the chance for a sixth term or Jacob knocks him out of office Tuesday will largely depend on which man can get his supporters to the ballot box, said Jones. "Cannon has less than 50 percent of the vote," the poll shows, said Jones. "But at least he does have strong support among the Republicans" in the survey — where Cannon leads 60-35 percent. And the race is in a closed Republican primary, open only in their case to GOP-registered voters.

Cannon is in a solid republican district. Chris Shays is in a solid democrat district. We can either elect RINOs like Chris Shays or flaming liberals from CT. In Utah, we shouldn't have to compromise .

Chris Cannon's past voting record on immigration issues and his comparitive support for legal and illegal immigrants alike, is pretty pathetic. And Cannon does make a habit of talking out both sides of his mouth. OTOH, Cannon voted in favor of HR4437, while JD Hayworth voted against it. In addition, Cannon's overall voting record has supported the conservative position a majority of the time. According to the ACU, that equals a 97% conservative lifetime voting record. Its critical that the words and actions of all conservatives remained focused on what's best for America, today and in the future.

You and Dan Jones. Two peas in a pod.

I'll wait for the poll that comes out Tuesday night.

Jacob is just as capable as Cannon ever was. The one important distinction: Jacob will resist shamnesty in all its varieties. He'll be a solid conservative vote across the board on other issues as well.

We ought to rename it the "Dane Jones shamnesty poll."

In Utah they don't. Chris Cannon has a 100% ACU record.

I tried on the net to find the party registration stats in Utah and totally failed. They were nowhere to be found. Odd.

I would be shocked if anyone elected from that district in Utah ended up with anything but a good ACU rating; Utah is the most conservative of conservative states.

Whether it be the third party losers or the single issue losers, the politics of "taking out" is nothing more than the politics of impotency. One is admitting weakness and not having enough support in the legislature to get one's ideas implemented.

And whether they be third party candidates or single issue candidates, they are cut from the same cloth of kooks and weirdos.

Now, if nobody objects, I will just sit back and listen to the sounds of all the whistling past the graveyard.

Speaking of Tuesday night, since a win is not going to be a "win", what exactly is enough of a "win" for Jacob to thwart the forces of satan and teach the dastardly Cannon a lesson? Because we all know that whatever Jacob gets as his vote total, you will call it a victory for the forces good over evil. So how much does Cannon have to get in order for the devil to win?

100% ACU conservatives such as Chris Cannon.

Dane, you are not in such a dither over Cannon because of his dang ACU rating. If his ACU rating was 40, you would still shill for him, so long as he does his part to keep the illegal pipeline flowing.

Maybe you could try to convince us that Cannon's pro amnesty stance is beneficial instead.

Yeah, sure, that's why he proposed his own amnesty plan. The only difference between the Senate's amnesty and Jacobs' is that the latter will waste more gasoline.

It isn't pro-amnesty, and Chris Cannon has the endorsement of James Sensenbrenner, not exactly a "pro-amnesty" guy.

Anyone who is soft on immigration (especially illegal immigration) doesn't deserve a 100% conservative rating.

I'm comparing the district. I don't expect to elect a solid conservative from Rhode Island but I do from Nebraska. That's why I dislike Hagel way more than Chafee.

In this case, we are comparing a Utah district to a CT distict.

Now you've done it! You've questioned the ACU ratings. Didn't you know they're infallible?

Just curious, but how would/did the ACU record the Senate vote for Bush's amnesty plan (you know, the one that 95% of senate democrats voted for)?

If you don't like ACU, then go with ADA. That's a liberal group and you come to the same conclusion with those numbers.
